nickjames1310 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Alright my first time at this pond was 2 weeks ago I caught 14 bass, a 4lb and 2 3.5 lb and the rest were 1-3 lb. I have been back I would say atleast 6 times and I have only caught 2 bass. What seems to be the problem its fairly large and has very little cover I caught all of the 14 bass on a Strink king red eye shad. I have thrown in spinners topwaters and worms and I cant seem to get anything out of it again. What would you guys recommend? Quote
buttonreel Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Are the weather conditions and time of day the same all times you have gone? Quote
jeff25 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Over fishing, maybe to much pressure on the fish Quote
buttonreel Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 One way to find out if there are still fish in the pond is too dump about a gallon of rat poison in the pond and then come back the next day to see if there are any fish on the surface. It works for me everytime I think I've overfished a spot. 1 Quote
nickjames1310 Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 It isn't fished to heavily I occasionally see people fishing it. The weather is usually about the same temp or so. Same time as usual. I just need to fish plastics but I don't know what plastics to use and how to fish them or were to cast them Quote

I just need to fish plastics but I don't know what plastics to use and how to fish them or were to cast them I pond fish plastics all day long its fun, frustrating at times, but fun lol is there any kind of vegetation growing in it? and color of water would be a good start too for helping out with plastics Quote
The Fisher Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Throw a wacky rigged senko where you think there might be fish and see what bites. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 27, 2014 Super User Posted April 27, 2014 Is the spawn happening? There in the north section of the body of water that gets the sun all day. That maybe the spawning area too. We have deer here every 2 to 3 days now I haven't seen them lately there having there young. Quote
719BassFishing Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 If the fish are spawning that might be the problem... fish locked on beds wont hit reaction baits most of the time.. look for beds and throw either a weightless senko or shakey head and you should catch em. Quote
nickjames1310 Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 Okay cool the water is muddy I can see probably a foot down. But the thing is I can't get a good cast with a senko at all maybe 15 ft which seems not far at all. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 27, 2014 Super User Posted April 27, 2014 Fish on bed either a lizzard or water dog plastics they eat bass eggs and the bass hate them. Just cast it on the beds and twitch it. I use a 1/8oz brass weight with a 24" leader (C-Rig) with senkos. It's just enough weight to cast it. Quote
The Fisher Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Use a 5" GY senko on a spinning set up and you should be able to get some decent distance. Quote
BigMoneyGrip Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 What are your rod and reel specs? I can cast a 3" senko weightless using a #2 hook about 50'. This weighs .141 ounces and is under what the rod is rated for. You should be able to smoke a 5" senko. Quote
Smallmouth Hunter Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 OP, You are either using too heavy of line, too little amount of line, or your rod and reel aren't set up properly. Quote
nickjames1310 Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 I use a Johnny Morris carbon life combo with 12 lb line Quote
gallowaypt Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 You probably need to adjust the tension knob. 1 Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 27, 2014 Super User Posted April 27, 2014 I use a Johnny Morris carbon life combo with 12 lb line It would really help a lot if you tell us what the Power/Action it is. This isn't detailed enough and a lot of "assumptions" would have to be made by a person to recommend to you what is wrong. Other things that could help someone give you some advice is what the is temperature like in the water? where are you located (generally, like a state)? The responses you gave for example the person asking weather/temp, times..etc. You responded in general but nothing that was helpful for the person who asked those questions. I'm assuming based on your questions you are new to "bass fishing". For Senko fishing please look at the FAQ. It has numerous advice, I also recommend taking a look at the equipment forum (Fishing rods, reels, line and knots) forum. Do some searches there for the type of fishing you are thinking of doing, generally you can find some good recommendations on the type of fishing you want to do. Quote
primetime Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 If they hit a Rattle Trap or Red Eye Shad on your first trip, I always find the next few trips to the same pond will always result in less fish on any lipless crank with rattles as they are probably seeing lipless cranks and hearing rattles all day if it is Pre Spawn-Spawn Time... Kill the Rattles, Throw a 1/8-1/4 spinnerbait to cover the flats, since water is muddy, Hammered blades may help, but try and find some clear water, warmer water, moving water from an inflow....But if it is void of cover (We have alot of Golf Course Ponds in Fl. Like that) they often get tough to catch during the spawn but not every fish spawns at the same time. Look at the shoreline and get an idea of where the deepest part of the Pond is, and even if it appears the entire pond is the same depth, usually one shoreline or strech of a corner will show that there may be a break point or drop off and usually they will be cruising back and forth in the area or areas that have bottom contour changes or highways......If you see that one side of the pond has some bolders, hard bottom etc..assume the bottom will be the same, and Bass will always look to spawn in a sheltered area or corner even in a featureless pond (Alwayssome features, Fountains, water pipes, shoreline Reeds or Tall Trees for shade etc.) Northern end warms first, I would start there and go with a silent presentation and use a neutral color like black or if Tilapia or Sunfish are main forrage, match that pattern as that will usually do the trick. strike King and Sebile make some goode Lipless cranks that are silent...Also, give a Rapala Floating Minnow or Flat Rap in a 9 size a try, that is a pond killer and so is a 6" Trick worm or 7.5" Ribbon Tail on a split shot rig... Hope that helps, I fish alot of ponds, I have a 2 acre pond loaded with bass near my house and there are weeks where I will struggle to catch fish, but if persistant, you will crack the code and feel good when you figure it out. There is always a way, and often doing what others are not works best.... 2 Quote
