drodriguez Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Who makes them and where can I find them? Colors? I know Sebile makes them, but I cant find the color i want. Any one else make em??? Quote
TorqueConverter Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Bill Lewis made a Rattle Trap that would suspend. I believe it was called Rattle Trap Red Zone. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I have several in my trap box mostly are Rattle trap I know but I wanna say cotton cordell made some too. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted April 26, 2014 Super User Posted April 26, 2014 Rapala Sub Walk. 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 26, 2014 Super User Posted April 26, 2014 I have a Cotton Cordell Spot that suspends. I never did think that the Rattle Trap Red Zone models suspended very well. I don't know about the Sebile models. If they work as well as the magic swimmer works, I'll have to pass for now.. I have a set of the Rapala Sub Walks, and they kind of suspend, and glide, but I don't think you'd use them in the same situations as you might a crank or a suspending trap. Quote
drodriguez Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Thanks for all replies. I've looked into the rattle trap lures, super spots, and the rapala subwalk. The rapala is more of a lipless rip bait and seems to have the wrong profile for what I'm planning. I'll probably try one just cause ya never really know. In the end its not what we as the fishermen like, its what the fish like. I have some hope for the super spots. Same with the rattle traps. I'll pick one up to see how it suspends. The Sebile is a killer bait in the right color (top secret lips are sealed) but when u stop it, it stops. It dives just above the weeds at my local lakes and won't go much further. I don't have one, my buddy does, and while I was bussy removing salad from my KVD red eye he was bussy rippin lips. The profile of this particular crainkbait is a good kinda different. I just cant find a place that sells it in the right color. I'm not gonna close this thread though, in case someone knows something even better. I'll wait a couple. Keep checking back if your as curious as I am. Quote
jdw174 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Cordell made a suspending Spot for a time..don't know if they're still made or not. I had a couple of them and never had so much as a sniff on them. The regular Spots were a different story entirely Quote

Comfortably Numb Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 No such thing as a lipless suspending bait. How would it go down if it suspends? The Rattle trap one had a bill and basicly was a regular suspending crank. 2 Quote

craww Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 A solution Ive came to in similar scenarios (long casts in shallow veggie filled water) is taking the middle, bottom hanging trebles off with snips. This is the hook that grabs the most and you dont seem to miss too many bites with the 4 remaining hooks. It also lightens the bait some, which doesnt hurt. Hold the bait and pull the hooks horizontal, like they are on a horizontal retreive to determine which to cut . Be sure to cut it FLUSH. Use a spot (among the slowest sinking rattlebaits) and a thicker diameter mono. This helps a great deal. Quote
Mumbly Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I bought a couple suspending Cordell spots this year. Will try them very soon. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 27, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 27, 2014 Red Zone Rattle Trap. I've got a couple and they're great in water too shallow to fish a jerkbait early in the year or over shallow grass. Quote
Nap8tak Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I once had a lure like the one you mentioned made either by yo-zuri or Matzuo. I bought it back sometime from 2000 - 2006 and It was a killer bass lure and I even hooked up multiple 10lbs channel cats as well. Body shape of it is totally different from the REDEYE shad line and is more Broad bodied. It probably is discontinued now and I don't know why companies do that with lures that are soooo productive. Only thing was I lost it on a fish and wasn't sure who made it. If I ever saw one again I'd know it right away. Body type really looks like Matzuo make them but I've called the reps and they said they don't make anything like that. Picture attached looks close to it but is not. Closest thing I can find to it was a Lucky Craft LV100, except those LV100 don't suspend. Wish I still had that money lure. Quote
primetime Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 No such thing as a lipless suspending bait. How would it go down if it suspends? The Rattle trap one had a bill and basicly was a regular suspending crank. THe Sebile Flatt Shad Suspends Like a Champ..It only dives 18" but it stops nose down on a dime and sits on top of Hydrilla. Best Lipless Crank many Days, best lure many days IMO. I love the Amber Fashion and Silver Mullet liquid colors, and the bait is silent, but has thump for a flat sided crank......I can't think of another lipless crank that suspends except for the Mirrolure Mirrodine which suspends in Saltwater, but sinks in Fresh...However, the Paul Brown Soft Dine will suspend in Fresh, and is a heck of a lure as well. Great in ponds near fish that are shy. I am always surprised more people do not fish Floating Rattle Traps. Quote
primetime Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Sebile makes a su or suspending model and I like the su77, but their Sinking version sk77 is very good as well...Wanted to clarify. Glad I found those Lures, they can Hunt all day long. Quote
Super User CWB Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 No such thing as a lipless suspending bait. How would it go down if it suspends? The Rattle trap one had a bill and basicly was a regular suspending crank. http://www.***.com/Cotton_Cordell_Suspending_Super_Spot/descpage-CCSSS.html I use these with good success in shallow water. Wish they had more colors though. They dive 1-3 feet. Hold you rod high and you can buzz it just under the surface. Stop it and it does suspend. I have a couple I've changed the hooks to bigger size which makes them sink slowly. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 No such thing as a lipless suspending bait. How would it go down if it suspends? The Rattle trap one had a bill and basicly was a regular suspending crank. http://www.sebile.com.au/Sebile_Products/Flatt_Shad_SU_77.html This Sebile model suspends. I thought it would be a great bait, especially over mid-depth vegetation, but so far I've experienced only mixed results. A-Jay Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted May 2, 2014 Super User Posted May 2, 2014 If you wanted to get a rattletrap, you could get one of the floaters. Use them and they dive to about 12", but if you put suspend dots or strips I'm sure you could get a neutral or ultra slow sink rate out of it. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 4, 2014 Global Moderator Posted May 4, 2014 No such thing as a lipless suspending bait. How would it go down if it suspends? The Rattle trap one had a bill and basicly was a regular suspending crank. The nose catches water just like a regular lipped crankbait and helps pull it down. My Red Zone traps suspend perfectly and get down 2-4 feet. Quote
Nap8tak Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 FOUND IT! The one I was talking about. Now all you need to do is find someone who'll sell you it on ebay. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 Bill Lewis has the floating traps, and yes, they do still dive down (just now as deep). You could always buy those and put suspen-dots on them. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted May 15, 2015 Super User Posted May 15, 2015 Why even have a floating lipless? Quote
