New Casting Rod Bps Or Cabellas

I am thinking of getting a casting combo and need some suggestions on the rod.

It was suggested to me to get the pro qualifier reel and a MH 7' rod. My problem is I need a 2 piece which looks like limits my options by quite a bit.

I went through BPS and cabellas and these are the 2 piece MH 7' rods I saw

BPS bionic blade XPS

Cabela fish eagle 50

Cabela tourney trail

Cabela XML

I was mainly looking at the bionic blade as I will be around a bass pro this weekend, but are the cabelas rods a lot better if at all?

I have been to Bass Pro and seen some of there brand stuff. It just doesn't seem to be as well made as the Cabelas stuff.

Almost all of my hunting clothing is Cabelas and it's some of the best stuff. As a matter of fact the Cabelas Tournament ZX rods won the Outdoor Life rod of the year this year and they are currently on sale for $69 right now. Spinning and Casting and free shipping. I just bought 4 of them.

I would go with the Cabelas. They make some of the highest quality stuff, have a great return policy, and the Outdoor Life gear review tests haven't led me astray yet.

I say either of those are good choices. I have two of the Cabelas Tourney Trail rods and find they're well made, strong, and just an all around quality rod. Worth more than their retail prices, and an outright steal when on sale. I feel the same way about the BPS rods too, but the Cabelas rods are what I have.

Now, the Cabelas Tourney Trail rods in the MH are a MF tip, a good choice for crankbaits but not what I'd call a jig or spinnerbait rod. They're just not stiff enough, and really are not sensitive enough for that either, at least for me. I have a heavy power also, and it is definitely stiff enough, but still not sensitive enough for me. I use mine as a spinnerbait rod, or frogs, but not really jigs unless they're large enough I can't help but feel them on the bottom.

I have some older Cabelas rods that I really liked, I have an older XML that I used for throwing floating jerkbaits and smaller 1/4oz spinnerbaits, it is a 6'3" medium power with a fast action and it is still a really good rod. If you can wait until the XML goes on sale I'd grab one, I'm not sure how the newer ones differ with the blank but if the blank is even close to my older model you will have a pretty good rod.

The XML is on for $120 down from $150. Maybe I should go for that?

Used to have an XML, but sold it a couple years ago - I regret it everyday! I have used a Cabelas Pro guide spinning rod as well, one of their cheaper lines, and liked that one as well. Have also used a couple bass pro rods and had good luck with them , and actually have one of the BPS Carbonlite rods coming in the mail.

I have fished with every rod you mentioned. I have since sold or traded in all my BPS Bionic Blades, Cabelas Fish Eagles, and Cabelas Tourny Trials. I not only still have my Cabelas XML rods, but I added more over time and now I am up to 10 of them (7 of which are 2-piece). Really a great rod.

I have never used the Tournament ZX rod, so I can't comment on how that rod fishes.

Hey everyone, I know this is an old thread but the Cabella XML rods are on sale now for$105! I just ordered two more after buying my first two about a month ago and loving them. They are great rods for $150 and for $105 you're getting a steal.
