Texasangler14 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 i have a 9.5 on a 14' jon boat and it is fine but to most surely would be underpowered. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 25, 2014 Super User Posted April 25, 2014 Honestly, there's not going to be a whole lot of difference between the two. I'd get the 5 if it's a good deal and keep looking. When something better comes around buy it and sell the 5. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 25, 2014 Super User Posted April 25, 2014 10HP is the largest motor allowed to be operated on Briery Creek Lake and Sandy River Res. At Lake Anna and the James River there is no limit. Before I got the Tracker PT 170 TX I have now, I used a 2-stroke 9.9 Merc on my 12' flat bottom jon boat. I have a 4-stroke 9.9 Merc on my Tracker--it is setup to fish those two lakes and electric-only waters. Quote
jbo225 Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 this guy is giving a really good deal on a 6hp evinrude Quote
tnriverluver Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Boat is probably not rated for much more than 5hp. Let the rating be your guide. Quote
MichBassMan Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Whatever you buy, I'd try to get a twin cyl rather than a single. Singles tend to be more noisy & vibrate more, especially on an aluminum boat. Quote
