OK this is what I got I have a 12' flat bottom Jon boat and I'm looking for a motor I do a lot of fishing at briery and sandy and sometimes at Anna it usually me and my brother in law on boat also fish James river "catfishing" so that being said I can get my hands on a 5hp is that to little of a motor for what I do or should I keep searching for a 6 or 7hp thanks folks

Honestly, there's not going to be a whole lot of difference between the two. I'd get the 5 if it's a good deal and keep looking. When something better comes around buy it and sell the 5.

10HP is the largest motor allowed to be operated on Briery Creek Lake and Sandy River Res.

 

At Lake Anna and the James River there is no limit.

 

Before I got the Tracker PT 170 TX I have now, I used a 2-stroke 9.9 Merc on my 12' flat bottom jon boat.

I have a 4-stroke 9.9 Merc on my Tracker--it is setup to fish those two lakes and electric-only waters.
