martintheduck Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Well, I pulled the trigger with my tax refund and scooped up one of those new Shimano Ci4+ casters. Just wanted to make a thread to let you guys know --- it is worth the $250+! It's a friggin R.O.C.K.E.T!!!! Smooth as all get out. Has really good power for pulling in fish. And the drag is super smooth. Also, the new braking system they put in there is killer with the ability to really fine tune it. Paired it with a 6'10 MH-fast Shimano Cumara Best purchase this year! IAY Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I have no regrets purchasing mine as well. Everything about it is just so nice and smooth. Quote
joetomlee Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I just purchased one as well but haven't had an opportunity to use it yet. Glad to hear it is worth the investment!! Quote
ColdSVT Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Mine is on backorder...should be here in a few weeks Quote
gripnrip Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 To say I'm impressed with my Ci4 would be an understatement. I plan on purchasing at least 2 more. Quote
Mr. Bassin II Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 How does it compare to the magnesium Quantum EXO you bought? Oh and, what's a tax refund? Quote
martintheduck Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 How does it compare to the magnesium Quantum EXO you bought? Oh and, what's a tax refund? hahaha. I was actually about to write up a side by side review. A quick answer about comparison... The Quantum is noticeably lighter. So far I can get better casts with the Quantum. I believe that will change as there is always a slight learning curve with a new reel (and I've only fished the Shimano for maybe 30 minutes). The Shimano feels like a really solid build and the Quantum feels a little "plastic" in comparison. As for feel, they both feel about the same in the palm of my hand, but I prefer the Quantum. The handle feels better when reeling and feels like a slightly smaller profile too. I can't say overall if I like one more than the other yet. Give it about a week and I'll let you know. Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 I put mine on a Legend Tournament and i love it! I am hoping to get a couple more. Quote
bass1980 Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I had two, a 6:1 and a 7:1. Needed money to buy another reel so I sold one. Now with a few trips of using the ci4+ and after flushing the bearings because it felt so stiff before I am now regretting selling my other ci4+. The braking system is very nice! I have small hands and I always have said the 50 series feel as good as it gets for me but this 100 ci4+ Palms maybe even better to me, maybe. The reel is just so nice looking too which is a huge bonus for me. If there wasn't so many people breaking their red Cumuras it would look so nice together with the red accent on the ci4+. This reel almost feels like aluminum, unlike my Zion T3. Quote
martintheduck Posted April 27, 2014 Author Posted April 27, 2014 If there wasn't so many people breaking their red Cumuras it would look so nice together with the red accent on the ci4+. I;ve got a 7'2 MH x-fast tip Cumara and the tip will break pretty easy if you mis use it. I've yet to have a problem with them catching fish, but if you bang them around they will break, Quote
CYP Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Congrats, I have one too and love it. I was out today, it was a bit windy, backlash, backlash, oh let me turn that little dial up. Smooth as butter and simple. Quote
