Are there any other hook keepers available besides the Fuji hook keepers? I don't want to have a hook keeper put on for fear of someone screwing up my rods and the last alternative is hooking the lure on top of the reel or the guides.

That is the Fuji Hook Keeper that I do not want. The reason that I say I don't want it is because it looks like it might over a period of time, cause some marring on the blank where it pivots. I thought that the FHK were metal. The plastic would be better than metal on the blank. Any problems scratching up your rod?

ohh didnt know that the one you were talking about... but no, ive had the rod for over 2 years and no scratches, scuffs, marks, anything

Does it move around or otherwise get in the way?

Check out the Norman hook keepers.

I have seen the Norman Hookkeepers on TW. They are cheap enough at $2.99 for a 4 pack. I am leaning towards the Normans. Thanks

John,

I have had a Fuji on my SwimBait Rod for 6 years and your concerns have been a non issue for me....It has been a solid performer.

Why do you have them on rods that already have hook-keepers?

And why do rod companies even make rods without hook keepers?????

I don't like when the hooks run against the blank (particularly Jerkbaits and Crankbaits). Where the hook holders are at the base of the blank, that placed all the troubles against the blank. Since almost all of my rods have a foregrip, when I put that rubber ring hook holder around the reel seat and have the lure hooked in it, the other hooks are up against the foregrip and not the blank. I am very careful with my equipment and I don't like to have scratches on the blank.

I've used those cable ties with a screw hanger in the past and they work pretty good. I've got a passle of them but don't know right now where they're at. If I find them in the AM, I'll PM you for your address and send you a bunch of mine. Got em on Ebay. Here's a link to get an idea what they are:

Not sure how you feel about this idea but the older Phenix M1 rods have a small hole in the trigger that can be used as a hook keeper. So you could just drill a small 2-3mm hole if you wanted.

That's how I did my 2 rods that did not have hook keepers.

Hook keeper, just another item I live easily without.  I've used them and I've also hooked myself picking up my rod near the foregrip.  I put my hooks and lures on the bottom guide, the foot is preferred over the ring but I'm not perfect.  I've never experienced a guide getting nicked or weakened for any reason.

This is a great idea. I think that I may even have some at my shop somewhere. Thank you for the offer! I ordered a pack of the Norman Hook Keepers from TW yesterday and if they don't work out, I will use the cable ties.
