crankbait2009 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 OK, these soft baits are ugly as all get out and seem worthless. (maybe this is why Ike didnt wint the classic, regardless if it was because KVD was there) http://www.***.com/Berkley_Havoc_Ikes_4_Devil_Spear/descpage-BHID.html has anyone used them and do they actually produce? Avalonjohn44 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 That looks pretty good to me. I'd buy a couple of bags. I really like the look of the Havoc fat craw. Quote
crankbait2009 Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 i liked the look of the fat craw as well......i even liked Skeet's craw over the spear. but i guess in the end, if the spear catches fish...........it has done its job. : i shouldn't knock it till i try it : Quote
hookingem Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I'm kinda into the design on those to be honest. They look like they would catch fish to me... : Quote
River Rat316 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 IMHO the spear is the only one that has even remotely peaked my interest, I doubt I will buy any but the other ones just look like knockoffs of knockoffs. I kow the spear is a knock off to, but its larger and has more action then the originals. Quote
Fat-G Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 The only "new" Berkley bait I am interested in is the 5" Chigger Craw. I love to flip and pitch thos things when I want something other than a Rage Craw. They make a great subtle flipping bait. The big 5" version will probably be a big flipping bait for me this year. MSAJAA Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I like the thought of using it on a drop shot? Just an idea... Quote

I love how the tail undulates. Quote

It looks like a craw body with no appendages except for the spear tail with the ribs that make it move. The only thing similar in my opinion would be the LFT Magic Shad, but that is a completely different bait. Please enlighten me, I would like another option because the Devil Spears that I ordered are back ordered and dont know when I'll be seeing them... Quote

I kow the spear is a knock off to, but its larger and has more action then the originals. Agreed ib, I think riverrat is talking about a stingray grub, I see... It has the same shape, but I hardly think that it is a knockoff. If anything it is a reinvention of that lure. I have seen the video on the Devil Spear and the tail action of it is amazing, that is why I have ordered some. I have yet to see a bait with a tail that moves like that. I think the only knockoff about it is the LFT bait ribs that give them their action. Even then LFT does not have a bait that moves like that. All their action is in the body. So it may be just a lure that has taken ideas from others and making it its own. Usually knockoffs are something that is basically identical. I doubt the stingray grubs move like Devil Spear. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 it's the same general shape, I'd loosely call the spear "inspired" by the stingray grub. The stingray is not super common or especially popular anymore, it is also much smaller so I'm excited about the spears. I already bought several packs to try Quote
BassThumb Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I bought a pack. They're beefier than I thought they'd be, and the plastic is a little tougher than the standard scented Powerbait plastic. They look like a pretty decent pitching bait or large profile swim jig trailer. I don't think these new Havoc baits are going to sell very well, at least not until someone credits an Elite Series win to them. Quote
VABassin'14 Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Dick's had the Havoc line products on sale for 20% off. So I picked up a pack of the spears and a pack of the craw fattys. For $2.93 they cant be but so bad. I like the looks of both styles and think that they can both be productive on a regular basis. Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I wish I had a tackle shop that stocked them... I had to order some and they are back ordered. I probably won't be getting them for a while... Quote
Super User grimlin Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 The Spear is really the only one that has peaked my interest out of the Havok baits. Quote
crankbait2009 Posted March 8, 2011 Author Posted March 8, 2011 ok, so maybe its me missing something!! :-[ so these spears, do you use it the same way you would as a trailer bait on spinners? its considered a "creature bait" right? Quote

Watch the havok video....That tail has a nice thumping action in the water. Much like a pattletail worm. Seems like a pretty versatile bait to me. Quote
bigredxlt Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 I really dont think it looks that out there. There have been a few similar finesse baits baits out there like the Damiki Spoon tail and the wave worm tiki drop or any reaper or paddle tail style bait. I dont see why it wouldnt produce. It looks like a great drop shot bait and on a shaky head I think it would look like a bait fish foraging for food on the bottom. I dont know just my opinion. http://www.***.com/Wave_Worm_Tiki_Drop_15pk/descpage-WWTKDRP.html http://www.***.com/Damiki_Spoon_Tail_Miki/descpage-SPTM.html Quote
