dpeels37354 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Ok so I've got my new setup here now. I've got a *** on a 7'3 MH *** Black. My question is do I need to use backing or can I just tie directly to the spool? I'm using Seagur Kanzen 30# test. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I say use backing for a couple of reasons. First to prevent the line from slipping on the spool, second, there is no reason to fill the spool with high dollar line. Use mono line to fill all but the last 50 yards or so of line then spool on your braid to finish filling. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I agree with aavery2 but I'd use a little less backing and more braid. The reason being that when you cut off and retie you use line obviously, but since braid lasts so long, you can actually pull it off the reel and reverse it when the one end fades out. If you only have 50 yards on it you probably won't have enough line left to do that with. Quote
Christian M Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Mono backing definitely! I use just enough mono to protect my spool. It prevents braid from digging into itself, and prevents your spool from warping due to the no stretch nature of braid. Be careful not to overfill your spool with braid, you should have enough to place your thumb on the spool comfortably and control your casts. Quote
ccummins Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I highly recommend Suffix Siege 20 lb mono as the backing. For all of the reasons previously stated above. Quote
Alpha Male Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I generally only use 20yards or so of the backing and fill with braid. Quote
carlm01 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I have a *** with 30lb braid on it , Just run through the holes in the spool and your fine , I will say I don't like this reel with braid as much as my curado 200e5 The spool is small and the braid tends to dig into it's self , I'm probably going to re-spool with floro at some point ....
