Super User bigbill Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 Are we still having winter lag or are they biting yet? There saying a cold front with frost again. They say early winter late spring. Winter is hanging on so long it maybe a short summer. We still have the flannel sheets and blankets on the bed. I wake up at 4am feel the cold and go back to bed. I know I should be out there but the bass aren't even out of the mud yet. It's 30 degrees and bass fishing just doesn't feel right. Quote
bmac31 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I've been doing ok. Got a couple LMB, a bunch of CP, handful of crappie and a pair of brownies. Fish have been looking healthy very colorful. Water temps seem to be in the mid to low 40's . Slow presentations seem to be working. Try wacky rigs or jerkbaits Luke the hj-6. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 24, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I guess I'll have to break out the insulated camo's and drag my butt out there soon. These high winds are the deal breaker for now. Quote
bmac31 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Got out today for a half hr before work with my buddy at a local trout spot near Quinnipiac university (Clark's pond). Third cast in my buddy lands a 22in pickeral on a tiny inline spinner. Only fish we got, but it was good for being there only 25 mins. Quote
Subchaser Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 He fella's, just joined the site and fairly new to bass fishing. It has been one helluva long winter hasn't it? I went out on Glasgow Pond weekend before last, caught a sunfish, two small bass and a crappie, got 3 ot them on a jointed minnow crank and one on a spinner jig.. Really wasn't expecting to catch much, just wanted to get my new fishyak out on the water and test it out so getting 4 in the yak was a nice bonus. Going out to Mansfield Hollow tomorrow, I'll report back in on how I do. Quote
bmac31 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Good luck subchaser. I'm also going out tomorrow. Maybe the housy, maybe mondo ponds not quite sure yet. Good luck too yeah and welcome to the site. Brian Quote
Subchaser Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Thanks Brian....had a fairly good day on the water today, caught 23 all together. 9 sunfish, a tiny perch and 13 bass, all but one were little, between 6 and 10 inches but I did get a nice 2 pounder toward the end of the day. Was a nice day, wind came up toward the end and made paddling back to the landing a bit of a chore but I managed. Water is still cold and the big 'uns ain't too active think, I saw one guy fishing off a bridge catch a really nice one, possibly a 5 pounder or better and two guys in a bass boat only got 3 keepers around 1 1/4 pounds or so. Definitely going back there again!! How'd you do? Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 26, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 26, 2014 Still cold here no spawn yet right? I think the spawn happens in May? Quote
Subchaser Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Think so Bill, water is still pretty cold, I paddled and fished up the Fenton River and didn't get a single hit. I did get a little sunburned so hopefully we'll get enough sunny days to warm the lakes up soon. But even though they weren't very big I was putting fish in the yak and it beat being at work. There were several little coves on the east side of the lake where I could see the small bass and sunfish.....I shoulda rigged up my light rig and played with them. 1 Quote
Subchaser Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 He was 2 pounds, not a record breaker but was happy to get him.....and then release him so he can get bigger. Quote
EdsBar Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Water is still kinda cold...These cold nights are killing me. 1 Quote

bmac31 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Went to Saltonstall Sunday. I had a rough day and didn't put anything in the boat. I went with a couple buddies one had a good day catching 3 lmb from 14-17in and my other buddy got a chunky 16 incher. Slow presentations seemed best mostly wacky senkos. The lake is very high and muddy. Maybe a foot visibility. Brian 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 30, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 30, 2014 Rain till Friday then it's 60's from Friday on. We need a good thunder and lightening storm for the weather to get hotter. 1 Quote
Tugmaster Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I fished Wyassup last night. One bass and a Pickerel. Temp on the fish finder said 55 degrees. It was windy as hell, calmed down a bit around dusk. Going to try my hand at Billings tomorrow morning. Todd Quote

Subchaser Posted May 4, 2014 Posted May 4, 2014 Got a tip that Green Fall Pond was a "well kept secret" and had some good sized bass in it so I decided to try it out yesterday. It's car top only so no motor craft which was nice (I'm a fishyaker) and had a good launch. Lot's of mosquito's so have some bug spray handy. The wind really picked up and made fishing extremely difficult, I'm fairly sore today from fighting it and I even lost my anchor, if you don't have a float on the end of your anchor line I highly recommend getting it. Only caught 3 fish, a small bass, a little sunfish and then the nice one pictured....another 2 pounder(ish). There's a lot of bank access and came across several folks fishing with hook and bobber and they said they were catching trout. I'll give it another try when it warms up a little more.....and isn't windy!! Next stop: Williams Pond. Quote
Tugmaster Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Green Falls is a great place. The fact that is car top only and no motors keeps the " Metal Flake Mafia" away. You rarely see anyone fishing there other than from shore. Makes it pretty peaceful. Todd Quote
EdsBar Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I want to check out some places that way..the problem is, is that it's about 1.5 hours to drive. I don't want to head out there and have ponds with no shore access (yak isn't finished yet.) Any suggestions for the eastern part? I'll be lugging @bmac31 with me. Quote
bmac31 Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 @edsbar and I will be hitting up East Twin on Monday. It's supposed to be 80° and I'm guessing the water will be high from all the recent rain. We will probably spend most of the time targeting bass/crappie and CP in the shallows of West Twin but wouldn't mind a nice trout or salmon from East. Any advice? We don't have down riggers or a fish finder. Thanks Quote
Tugmaster Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Fished Wyassup again tonight. 10 bass, biggest just over 2 pounds. Half a dozen big slab bluegill and one 24" angry pickerel! water temp was a steady 70. I got everything on a silver broke back Rapala or a Rebel wee crawdad. Nice evening. Todd Quote
