Megastink Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I'm in the market and price is not a problem.... what should I buy? Simms? Frabill? Anyone? Quote
papajoe222 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Price aside, both BPS and Cabela's have excellent quality in their top-end rain gear. I have both a lightweight set from Cabelas and the older 100mph. set from BPS and have come out of some very serious downpours with only wet feet (still haven't found a dry pair of shoes). Just don't make the mistake many of us have and that's leaving it in the car or at home because the forecast doesn't call for rain. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I have Frabill and have been very happy with them. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 Simms is good stuff but very expensive. Cabela's brand clothing is guaranteed for life and is reasonably priced. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 Cabela's Guidewear for me. 2 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I have three sets of Cabelas rain gear. A Guidewear, uninsulated bibs and parka set that I can wear up to about 75 degrees. A Rain Suede bibs abd parka set that's good down to about 20. and an MT50 bibs and parka set that I can't wear unless it's less than 20. Notice I said bibs and parka for every set. Don't get a pants and jacket set. Unless, of course, you like fishing with a cold, wet arse. 1 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 Forgot to mention; buy Cabelas stuff in the middle of the winter. They seem to put their outerwear on sale every winter. I paid less than half price for all three of the sets I have. Quote

Megastink Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 No option or no object? Thanks! Fixed. Quote
ColdSVT Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I have the BPS 100mph set and i love it Guys in the club i fish in have the BPS pq, 100mph, gander, and cabelas suits and none of them complain about any of them respectively. Just never ever forget to take your suit with ya nomatter what the forcast says! Quote
Volboy Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Simms is best combination of features, quality, and light weight. Next step down would be Cabelas Guide Wear. Cabelas is nice, but it's heavy and gets really warm on a hot day. 1 Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 If price is not an issue, I'd look at Arc'Teryx or Norrona. Their GoreTex fabrics and designs really are top notch. I have several of their pieces for skiing and they're insanely overbuilt but in a very minimalist way. 3L Gore-Tex, combinations of different deniers in high wear areas, full seam taping, waterproof zips, severe weather hood and 3D seams create a very good fit. I have the Theta AR and it keeps me dry no matter what the season, temperature or conditions with the right layering. I know many people who have had jackets from those companies for literally years and they're still in great shape- and that's tree skiers mind you. Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 If money was no object I would go with the Simms stuff. I got a jacket and bib set (uninsulated) of the Cabelas Bass Angler Guidewear (not because of the name but because of the design) and I love the stuff. Went on clearance too right when I was buying it Quote
Super User Teal Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I have various frog toggs ans Columbia gear ans I'm pretty happy with with. Everybody I know that has Cabelas Guide wear really likes it. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I purchased the surplus Swiss army camp ponchos. There at, "cheaper than dirt" Quote
AMAC Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I went with Simms. You get what you pay for. The thing I like about them the most is they are not heavy and dont wear you out at the end of the day. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 My girlfriend bought me the pro qualifier set from Bass Pro. it is AWESOME!! Quote
