RoachDad Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I've decided to upgrade to some Maui Jim's sunglasses. They are not cheap as I am sure everyone knows. I'd be interested in opinions particularly when it comes to lens color. I fish and play golf. I'm going to get superthin glass lenses. Or at least that is my plan. I'm also going to get the wife a pair but hers will be general purpose. Quote
Brnnoser6983 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 (edited) For fishing, polarized for Sun, Amber for overcast. These two combos will allow you to see through the water better and see any bedded bass (assuming they are in clear to somewhat stained water). But if you only get one I would say a slight tint with polarization. Edited April 23, 2014 by Brnnoser6983 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 Maui Jims offer great sunglasses. I usually lean toward lens that are darker in tint to maximize the amount of protection. The sun in South Florida is bright and exposed to it for long periods of time without the right protection gives me headaches. As far as frames go. I do not golf but I fish as often as I can, my frames are thicker and encompass my whole eye. Thinner sun glasses I find although they are polarized and protect the eye, are more for a stylish look imo than hard core recreational sun glasses. Quote
bassackwards12 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I would go with a green or a amber colored lens Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 Had some, lost a pair and broke 1.... miss them dearly! i had a darker lens for full sun and amber lens for overcast/golf. i'm in the market again and considering costa, but if not it will be some maui jim's Quote
j2dh Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Not sure about Maui Jim, but with Costas i had the green mirror which is an amber lens and preferred it over a darker lens. The amber isn't as good on bright days but when the clouds are out its easier to see the fish. I now have the blue mirror darker lens and i kind of regret getting it. Quote
Blue76 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I have the Costas with the 580G lens. It is a pretty dark lens... on some days I wish I had the green lens. I also have some Maui Jims which have an amber lens... they are great sunglasses but they don't "see through" the water as well as the Costas. I have a pair of Costa Fathoms with the same 580G lens that I have worn twice... long story but I broke a pair on vacation... bought a new pair... Costa sent me a new replacement pair so I have those for sale... $189.00... Paid $239.00. Sorry wrong forum for that but I am not trying too hard to sell them anyway. Greg Quote
conorsixtakc Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 just make sure they're polarized. beyond that is personal preference. Quote
