EvanT123 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Two part question. I couldn't fit it all in the title. One you are on a roll and loose the lure or run out of plastics. What do you do? Something similar or change up? Two: Your on a roll and just get the itch to change up. Why? Quote
Tylertut Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Last time I was pulling in smallmouth left and right and had one break off with my lure. I went back to the truck, drove 45 minutes to bass pro and bought 3 more. Drove back and kept on reeling them in. 4 Quote
CDMeyer Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 If I am on roll and loose/run out I will try and find something similar, it may not work as well but it usually does the trick.....now when I am on a roll and want to change up, I never do in a tournament unless I think I will get bigger fish after I have my limit, but when just out fishing I like to challenge myself or try and see if something else will catch more or bigger ones 1 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 thats why i like the baitmonkey you buy 3 or 10 of the same lures (JUST IN CASE) haha!!! but yeah you can change it up try the same color in a different bait and see what happens Quote
macmichael Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I was bow hunting one fall a few years back and decided to fish a pond or 2. Well, I ran out of plastics. I took some red 4 inch fletchings split them in half, attached them to a hook, put a split shot on the line and continued to catch bass. I probably already told this story. If I did, sorry. 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 I continue to fish with what ever I have. Where like a baseball pitcher doing a change up. I don't get upset or let them see me sweat. I just go back to throwing my ritual of baits till one works. Nothing wrong with throwing something different than the norm too. To be the man you gotta have the plan..... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 23, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 23, 2014 I'll go to something similar and keep catching. I change it up on those days they're eating real well because I always feel like they could be biting better on something else. 1 Quote

I lose a bait I just put another one on and don't think about it. Every now and then I play a little game with myself, every time I catch fish I change to a totally different type of lure. I've done this scores of times, when the bite is hot it doesn't seem to make a difference. 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 I Never Leave Biting Fish! As for losing lures, I've cured that problem years ago, I never carry just one. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 I will put on a similar looking bait and keep on fishing. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 I'd find something I have that's similar, and with the extensive collection I have, I wouldn't have to look far haha. In general I never get the itch to switch if I'm catching. If it ain't broke don't fix it! The only time I would is if I was catching nothing but dinks. Usually I'd change areas first before changing what I'm doing when it's working. Quote
river-rat Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 If I'm "on a roll", obviously the fish are very active and biting. I'll change to something similiar and keep on catching them. 1 Quote

Usually when the bite is on for a certain lure, it stays on until the weather changes or it gets it gets dark. Quote
0119 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I hate it when they are hot for a lure that's discontinued. They've been tearing up Yo-zuri 3d poppers here and its my last one. I treat it like a beautiful virgin. The updated 3DB doesn't have near the same pop. I can't even find them on ebay anymore. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I was in s similar situation last year and had one chomper twin tail left. I superglued it back together so much it about wouldnt move anymore. Finished 2nd in the tourney by 4 ounces. I got greedy and went went looking for a big one shoulda stayed and culled up. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 I Never Leave Biting Fish! As for losing lures, I've cured that problem years ago, I never carry just one. Man I would have to lose a lot because I carry so many "spares". Allen Quote
mjseverson24 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 i am with the guys who said just switch to something similar if you loose or run out of a certain bait... i do often get the itch to try other things when the bite is hot, and it almost always pays off... if it doesn't i can always grab the other rod that was working before... Creekcrappie Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I ran out of flukes the other day. I tried other things but I didn't get them to hit anything else. I bought 6 more packs the next day to make sure I don't run out. Quote

Super User Shane J Posted April 26, 2014 Super User Posted April 26, 2014 Run out of plastics?? Quote
Basseditor Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 As others have said, I won't run out. I could lighten my boat by 500 lbs by not taking so much, but then I might run out of something. That's not happening. 1 Quote
