Mikell Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Man I haven't had any luck lately, I bird nest so bad I had to cut my line out in the first 10 minutes, not even casting. Crank got hung and i didnt realize i hadnt locked the spool by reeling. Jerked to rip the crank out and the spool just free spun... Lost a crank in a tree... Rippin a lipless through some shallow grass, it got hung then, it flew out and stuck me in the knee.. Lost 5 fish off the hook right at the shore... back to back Days like these make me not want to fish. Anyone else have days like these? lol Quote
ThurmanMerman Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Yeah, man! I still have days like that every now and again. Sometimes ill leave the lake in a really tick poor mood and want to quit. But, by the time I get home, I wishing' I was on the water! 1 Quote
Mikell Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 yeah I feel ya, I dont know what was happening with my hook sets or hooks in general but I lost those 5 fish the exact same way they were right at shore I was about to pull em up and boom they were just gone lol Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 It is days like those that make love fishing. Quote
ripinit Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Losing fish is definitely something you are doing wrong. I've had these problems, but found out what I was doing. Sometimes, as in my case, I had to go to a smaller diameter hook, when I was finessing, and then switch to a more parabolic rod when cranking. 5 in a row, is when you get that thinking cap on.... Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted April 23, 2014 Super User Posted April 23, 2014 yeah ive had alot of those days. but i cant think of anything else id rather be doing. Hang in there things will start stacking up on your side sooon Quote
fishva Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Yes. Just a couple weeks ago, I lost four nice fish in a row right at my knees. I was wading (this wasn't planned, or I would have had a net), and couldn't figure out how to position the fish / rod in a way where I could keep the slack out of the line without dropping my reel in the water. I failed four times in a row, and it was infuriating. I felt like throwing up, to be completely honest with you. But I learned something, and finally figured it out on fish 5. It only took one nice fish to take away the sting of the losses. That said, the losses sure do stick with me a lot longer than the ones I land. I remember nearly every fish I've lost, but relatively few of the ones I've caught... Quote
CDMeyer Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 As Shaw Grigsby says fishing is the most humbling sport there is..... one day you can be on top, then the next you are skunked The first time I ever caught my 5 fish limit in one day I was so pumped felt invisible, then went back the next day to the same areas and applied the same techniques and pattern..... 1 bite in the Moring the nothing all day, till I changed the pattern then only 4 so 5 after the best day in my fishing life..... That is why we fish, we fish to try and master it but no matter how great we become, we will not ever solve the bass fishing puzzle..... there are missing pieces nobody has and none ever will..... that is why we love this sport stay positive put faith in God and you will get em' Quote
Mikell Posted April 23, 2014 Author Posted April 23, 2014 well i thought it might be the hook but i got 6 fish on the same exact hook a few weeks ago. Im thinking that it might have been the soft plastic i was using, a baby brush hog it may not have compressed enough to give good hook exposure to get a good set. It being the same hook as a few weeks before and too lose that many on it was what made it worse lol Quote
