Super User eyedabassman Posted March 6, 2011 Super User Posted March 6, 2011 I was talking to some guys at my Bass Pro about this Flicker Shad and they acted like this bait was the best thing since the shirt pocket ( Ala Bill Dance )! I am not a big crank kinda guy but, I want to expand and fish them this year because I am going to retire May 31 and I will be fishing ALL summer so, I will have the time now to get to know the crankbait better. Is this a good crank or are there better ones to pick from? Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 They are middle/lower of the pack IMO. They will work and a good place to get started crankin but are not the quality of some of the higher end bait(LC's, Spro etc.) I rate them right below Strike King (which is what i use mostly).. Quote
RyneB Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I bought one to throw on my local river. I throw a bomber in sexy shad color and have very successful outings catching sauger, smallmouth, largemouth, white bass, flatheads and an occasional walleye. I have thrown the flicker shad every outing and have yet to get a strike. It runs true, looks good, but i have yet to catch a fish. And thats how i judge a bait. Iv talked to guys at the boat ramp and thats all they use to troll for sauger and walleye. So i guys one mans trash is another mans treasure. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 Lets just say I throw Flickers when I don't care about the pike biting them off.. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 6, 2011 Super User Posted March 6, 2011 I think Flicker Shads are more of a trolling crank than a casting crank. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted March 6, 2011 Super User Posted March 6, 2011 They are marketed pretty heavily towards walleye folks. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 I think Flicker Shads are more of a trolling crank than a casting crank. That's not necessarily true..They are productive when fished like a jerkbait, but like you said they are a nice trolling bait as well. Quote
Super User Hooligan Posted March 6, 2011 Super User Posted March 6, 2011 The flicker shad was developed specifically for walleye trollers, Phishin is dead on. Parsons talked a little about it last weekend. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted March 7, 2011 Author Super User Posted March 7, 2011 That is what I kinda thought. They look like a nice little crank! Quote
Evans Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I bought a couple of them at the local shop and have thrown them a few times. Not the greatest crank I have ever used, but definately a good smaller crankbait to throw when the forage is small. I've caught 1 smallie and 2 spots on them in the few outings I have been and thrown them. I throw them only on a spinning outfit because of how small they are. Seemed like the best retrieve for me was fishing it like a jerkbait or a real slow constant reel. Quote
