How To Figure Ideal Fishing Conditions.

I live in S. FL and have learned so much here at this site. I am completely lost in determining the best days to go fishing in my area. Can anyone try to explain what to look for in particular in my area for the best fishing conditions?

I have a particular honey hole where sometimes I catch 20 and sometimes 1using same applications and time of day.

I figure anytime I can get out of the house is the ideal time.  Honestly, there is no ideal day and time, sure there are days that are better than others, but if you stay at home and try to predict what day is going to be the best, that is exactly what you will end up missing.

Here's how I determine idea fishing conditions:

1) Am I dead?

2) Will getting on the water kill me?

 

If I can answer no to both of these questions, it's an ideal time to fish!

On a more serious note, there are lots of variables that factor into a basses mood. In general rising barometric pressure means tougher fishing because a front just passed. Sunny bluebird skies are tougher to fish because bass won't be as aggressive and will position closer to cover. When it's cloudy and/or windy that will usually help allowing fish to roam a little more and feed more actively.

 

These are general rules, but there's nothing said they are going to hold true 100% of the time.

I like WIGuide's advise , nothing is ever written in stone , bright sunny days means they are in tight to cover and wont move very far , if at all , your finesse fishing is going to be your best friend , placement and stealth and patience , on tough days these will normally net the fish you are looking for , from one day to the next , hour by hour their mood changes , so too must you change , maybe location , maybe baits , maybe technique , maybe something as simple as your speed in which you fish , since it sounds as if you know what baits already work well in your area , I would suggest small changes first , like slowing down the presentation and moving forward from that .

Color, speed, action.

Im no expert but this is what ive come to the conclusion of. Ive got a whole mess of soft plastics and limited selection of hard baits.

Lets start here with

Color: Ive fished my test pond with every plastic Ive had. At any given time the color seems to be most important. Blue blacks... heck even a small amount of glitter makes a huge difference.

Speed: Sometimes that fish just wont bite unless that speed is just right. Use weight only if neccessary to achieve depth and speed.

Action: Sometimes a ribbon tail sometimes a paddle tail. Try different styles some will be more successful at times then others. This includes your presentation. Stops, sweeps, shaking, and what I call running (make a bait look like its about to get away) really can get picky fish to bite.

Ideal fishing conditions:

1) I'm off of work

2) I have gas in my boat, or a few bucks to get gas.

3) I have at least 2 hours to fish before a scheduling conflict

4) There is not an on going thunder storm at or near my local lake

5) I am not deathly sick or in the Emergency Room

6) Do not have a member of my household that is in the Emergency Room

7) It does not interfer with church

8) It is not Superbowl Sunday

9) there are no weddings or funerals of immediate family or close pals on said day

Fishing is 50/50, meaning you either catch a fish on your cast or you don't.  I fish everyday regardless of what the weather is doing.  There are certain weather conditions that get me more exited to be out there.  For bass fishing I like it ugly, cloudy, some wind and a drizzle doesn't seem to hurt.  Peacocks I like bright sun.  Offshore I like 3-5' chop, inshore I like it rough with dirty water for snook and crystal clear flat water for barracuda.  The weather has everything to do with what my chosen target for the day will be, the fish don't seem to follow the weather as much as I do.....lol.
