bucketmouthbeatdown Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 There was a tourney a number of years ago where the pro angler switched to an aluminum boat and had to shimmy into a drainage tube? I think he might have ended up winning. It wasn't mark menendez. For some reason that memory came back to me and now I have to see the video. what tournament was it? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 20, 2014 Super User Posted April 20, 2014 A while back Rick Clunn ran one in the Classic. Here's an interview Glenn did with him. A-Jay http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-videos/Rick-Clunn-tin-boat.html Quote
"BRB" Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I can't remember his name, but I know who you are talking about. I believe it was the flw and on the Red River. Was really great. I remember the interview afterwards. He said he almost didn't fish that tournament because the lack of funds. he had some friends and family cheap in a paid his entry. Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Mark Rose on FLW brings an aluminum rig to many events and spends many practice days in one too. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 21, 2014 Super User Posted April 21, 2014 Jarrett Edwards was an elite pro until he got cancer a few years ago. He runs the same Lund I have. A 2010 Predator. Not sure if he ran a Lund when he competed. Quote
Justin2 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 John Cox was the one that used one at the red river and he uses one for every FLW event. He says he uses it because the lack of funds. I actually think he's made 2 top ten cuts this season. I know he did on Hartwell. 1 Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted April 21, 2014 Super User Posted April 21, 2014 There have been several guys use them for various tournaments. I know Steve Kennedy used one a few years ago, Mark Menendez and Tommy Biffle have too, I'm sure there have been many more besides those three. Like Justin said, John Cox is running one all season this year. Quote
JayKumar Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I know what you're referring to and can't remember either, but since then many guys on both tours have brought tin rigs to the Red and elsewhere, though I believe the Elite Series bans that now. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted April 21, 2014 Super User Posted April 21, 2014 The Elite Series now requires you to fish out the same boat for the whole season. You can fish from an aluminum boat but you would have to use it for every event. 1 Quote
etommy28 Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 John Cox did on the red river and mark menendez did on Dardanelle. Quote
bucketmouthbeatdown Posted April 22, 2014 Author Posted April 22, 2014 It was John Cox.....I just can't seem to find the video for it. thinking its 2011 or 2012. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted April 22, 2014 Super User Posted April 22, 2014 I believe Ott Defoe did it last year on one of the first events of the season. Quote
slimshad Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Mark Menendez was the one that was going through the causeway pipe. It was a BASS event. Quote
basscatcher8 Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Yep Mark Menendez on the 2009 Diamond Drive. You can watch it here. http://www.bassmaster.com/video/elite-series-full-shows# Quote
Gotfishyfingers? Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 The time John Cox won, it was in a borrowed boat. I actually got paired up one time with the owner and that boat in a tournament. It was like a 16ft with a 75hp. It was cool to hear the story.. Quote
dave Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Roland Martin did i YEARS ago in an aluminum jet powered to traverse a large shallow rock bed to get to fish. Quote
jhoffman Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Id run an aluminium if it had enough motor to fish a pro event. My aluminium, forget it, not enough juice. A 17' id want at least a 60 to even attempt it and a 19' at least a 115. Quote
oufaninks Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Ricky Green drove from Lake Texoma to Arkadelphia, AR at night to get his aluminum boat which had had the lower unit changed out from running a prop to a jet pumper so he could run shallow water in the Red River feeding Texoma. It was a BASS tournament in which he won. Quote
CDMeyer Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Here is an article on Steve Kennedy http://www.b2ideas.com/blog/b2-ideas/auburns-steve-kennedy-readies-for-bassmaster-classic/ Quote

A 17' id want at least a 60 to even attempt it and a 19' at least a 115. There are a number of 19 foot tin "bass" boats rated for over 115hp. Crestliner, G3, War Eagle, Sea Ark and Xpress are a few. Rumor has it the next generation Ranger RT188 series will have a 150 rating. Quote
modux Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Mark switched to an aluminum boat on Lake Dardanelle in order to get under/through a bridge a few years ago. He was blindly flipping a tube to bedding fish in that back water area. It was an Elite event, and since then BASS has changed the rules requiring an angler to fish the entire season in the boat he starts the year in. I say boo to that! He outsmarted the best and they went to crying foul like a bunch of babies! Any one of those guys could've pulled that off if they'd have thought outside of the box, it's not like he lived there and had an unfair advantage. But there were some (one in mind) very prominent anglers who had a run at the win, and I'd bet my gear that they/he was sore to lose like that. These guys are the best of the best, let em fish in a kayak if that's what it takes to win! Quote
