boostr Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 This is probably a noob question, but what is the most common size used or best all around size in ewg, worm and off set worm, and drop shot. I'm trying to down size the amount of tackle so I can fit it all in a backpack for my bank fishing. Thanks. Quote
Mccallister25 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Most of the time a 2/0 to 4/0 is about all you need. I bank fish, and for 90% if my plastics I use a 4/0 EWG hook. Quote

Super User AK-Jax86 Posted April 20, 2014 Super User Posted April 20, 2014 Yea I use 4/0 EWG hooks for some of my worms and use 4/0 or 5/0 offset hooks when I am Texas rigging (the 5/0 for my bigger senkos and lizards) When I am fishing big worms like 10"- 12" I use a bigger hook 6/0 or 7/0. I bank fish a lot as well so I generally bring just what I am going to use at that spot, leave the rest in my car, so I am traveling light... Sometimes that backfires like yesterday when I was at a frog spot and saw a big female on a bed I had nothing to entice her with cuz I left it behind. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted April 20, 2014 Super User Posted April 20, 2014 If you are looking to downsize and you want to go with 1 size of hook, I'd go with 3/0 in all styles, you can use it to rig 4" and 5" senkos, 5" 6" and 7" worms and it works well, the only thing is the drop shot deal, that there depends on what kind of hook you use. If you are nose hooking small baits then it would be a #1 octopus hook, if you weedless rig larger baits it would be a 1/0 worm hook, offset shank. Quote

RF813 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 ^^ Agree with all above posts. I go 3/0 most of the time. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 20, 2014 Super User Posted April 20, 2014 When I am packing my stuff to be a non boater I typically grab a pack of 3/0 ewg hooks. I consider them to be the most versatile size. 1 Quote
