Tiller Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I really like my *** black rods but the recent spinning rod I got from TW had a really bad first guide that was misaligned and showed signs of poor workmanship so I returned it and TW replaced it. Now this one has all nicely aligned guides except the tip-top guide is off by about 30 degrees. I thought about keeping it but it really bothers me when I'm holding and looking down the rod. Am I being too particular? I feel like getting aligned guides shouldn't be too much to ask for. Would you take this up with *** or return it again to TW and wait 2 more weeks and hope they send a good one this time? Joe Quote
BobP Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Rather than go through additional hassle, heat the tip with a flame until it's glue softens and adjust it straight. If it doesn't feel solid, mix up a little 5 min epoxy and re-glue it. You need to know how to do this anyway because the tip top is the guide most often damaged and you will have occasion to replace one eventually. Quote

Look at it this way, some employe or employees at the company are not doing their job, sending back a defective ítem is a way to call the attention of the management that somebody is not doing it´s job, also why you have to pay for them not doing their job properly ? I don't mind a ding or something in the cork, but the guides and reel seat need to be 100% correct. A lot of guys on here will look down on 100 dollar rods as if they aren't worthy, but lets not forget for most of us, 100 is a day or a half day of work. 100 bucks is a lot of money ans the product needs to exemplify that You are not expecting too much. Send it back till they get it right. And if you experience more headache, look at a diff brand next time 9 Quote

If I were unsure how to do it (plenty of you tube videos) a tackle shop probably would do it as you waited, my guess free for goodwill. Quote
RF813 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I had a similar issue on a new rod from TW...The epoxy that held it on was cracked. TW tried to tell me it wasn't a big deal. I insisted they replace it, and they did, relatively hassle free. When buying something new, it should be NEW. Don't take it into your own hands to fix it if you've never done that before....You might just make it worse, then you're SOL. 2 Quote

Super User Raul Posted April 21, 2014 Super User Posted April 21, 2014 Let me put into this perspective, 100 bucks is about 1350 pesos, I charge 180 pesos for grooming a dog, it takes me about an hour to groom that dog, after expenses I made 135 pesos for the grooming so it took me over 10 hours to groom 10 dogs in order to make the 100 dollars to purchase that rod, more than a days work and of course, those 10 dogs are seldomly groomed in 1 day, my average is 3 dogs arrive for grooming a day, that means that I had to work for more than 3 days to purchase that 100 dollars rod. 10 or a 1000 I expect it to be perfect 100 percent of the times. So no, you are not expecting too much. Quote

Id contact 13 direct, express your annoyance and displeasure, and sent it back to them. Get the persons name you talk to and if you dont get satisfaction from them in a timely and professional manner Id take it higher. I had the same issue with poorly glued crooked twisted tip guide. Took mine back for exchange, week later went back to store they put it back on rack full price Quote

Mike the problem with shipping to *** direct is that you have to pay to ship it to them. if your doing a warranty exchange you have to pay to ship it back to you also. while i really did like the rod while i had it i may be done with them... Joe It is sad day that when you purchase something brand new and then find yourself questioning whether or not you should accept a substandard product. The answer to that is No and you are not being to particular, after all you did not order a "Seconds" spinning rod. Now to resolve this I would contact the Mfg'er and explain the program to them and then ask them what they suggest you do in order to get a new one not a second.You will find out real quick if you should continue to do business with them... primetime Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I consider $100 the max I will spend on a rod. I will spend more on a reel if I love the way it feels, has a great reputation etc... as I have found that you get what you pay for when buying reels for the most part. I think we have all had some bad experiences with some products, but I have to say that I find most Manufactures and Retailers to be very good when it comes to exchanges due to any issue... If a guide is not 100% in line on a brand new rod, I would request a replacement and if a company is not willing to fix the issue which is simply poor workmanship, than I would spend my hard earned money on another brand. However, I will always give a company the chance to rectify the problem, and I would imagine you will find that both Tackle Warehouse and *** will fix your issue.....I don't think you are beeing picky at all, $100 should buy you a nice rod, and I am seeing alot of great deals on Tackle warehouse and at other retailers on clearance so finding a replacement or new brand should not be difficult in that price range at this time of year.
