I got a Shimano Crucial Worm/Jig rod this year for Christmas.

Today I was out fishing, nothing heavy, caught a few decent 3-4lbs

I get home tonight and I'm getting everything put away, and I normally wipe the rod and guides down, and I notice the last section, closest to the tip is missing. I didn't even hear a break or anything, I don't know when I would've done it other than on a hookset. I must've lost the dangling piece when I was tying a new jig on. Unless you knew there was a last section you wouldn't even know it broke off because it broke almost exactly underneath the second guide. It looks like the 2nd guide is actually the tip.....but no, it's broken.

I hear Shimano has a good over-the-counter warranty. The closest 2 Shimano retailers to me are Dick's Sporting Goods and Gander Mountain.

Is this going to be a hassle to take it in an get a replacement? I have all receipts and such, I just hope I can get a rod back in my hands soon.

What do you guys suggest? Which retailer would you go to?

Either retailer should swap it out for you. I have broken 2 Cumaras due to stupidty on my part and they were exchanged no questions asked at BPS.

Either retailer will more than likely exchange the rod for free no questions asked.

Don't worry they will take care of you! Let us know what happens!

at worst it will cost you 10 bucks to send it to Shimano and they will replace it no prob. You can cut it into 4 pieces to make it easier to ship

I would not do that!! They could refuse your claim.Just go to a Gander  or Bass Pro and ask them for a cardboard shipping tube,.that is how they get the high end rods shipped to them and they should give it to you free of charge. They just throw them out anyway!

If pick the retailer that had the rod in inventory. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward.

  1. I have always had good luck calling the specific rod or reel manufacturer directly, explain my issue, and have almost always ended up happy in the end. I find most companies stand behind their products as long as you are friendly and honest when calling.....Just my 2Cents

UPDATE....

Took my rod into my local Dick's Sporting Goods, which had the exact same model, and they traded it out without much hassle. I should say there wasn't any more hassle than a normal return at anyplace else (see Kohls, their return process is often faster than the purchase process, insanely quick).

In the meantime I had a nice conversation with the lady helping me about the differences in fishing rods since she wasn't as knowledgeable as she would've liked. I think being kind to a salesperson goes a long way, because she certainly helped facilitate a smooth transaction, with even a couple of laughs thrown in during the process.

Overall it was painless and they got me a new rod in-hand in about 5 minutes and on my way.

Glad that's taken care of!   :respect-059:

Thanks for the help.

That method of shipping came directly from the Shimano rep at the Chicago outdoor show. I've sent 2 back to Shimano in this fashion with no problems and had new rods in 2 weeks. They just ask that you don't cut any of the markings on the rod

glad it turned out well for you...

i agree...being nice and walking in with a good attitude can go a long way...you did well...

Hey! I was going by Geist last week and was wondering.....how'd your tournament go there? I think you said it was in March?

not bad.....

way very windy..water was pretty muddy.

caught a lot of fish (everyone did) but was hard to get keepers.. it only took 12lbs to win.

i caught mine on..spinnerbait, jerkbait, wacky senko, and mostly on a chatterbait.  my best fish came out on the main lake where the old roadbed is.  is was crazy windy out there but that is where we did the best..\it was the first time there for our club...i think we'll go back next year since most everyone caught fsih..
