Mikell Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I have a 7'3 MF *** with a Lews TourneyMG, It was spooled with red lable floro and the casting and backlashing was horrible. I took all of it off and now Im wondering out of the lines that I have which would be best for weighted to lightweighted soft plastics worms grubs craws wacky rigs and such Ive got some 30lb PP braid, 20lb and 15lb Senshi Mono and some 12lb Sunline Super Floro. So what would be best? a combo of braid and leader or just straight mono/floro? Also are there any line conditioning tips/tricks that some of you know about? Of course thers line conditioner but homemade type stuff like ive heard of soaking certain lines in warm to hot water? Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 19, 2014 Super User Posted April 19, 2014 I'd go with the 12lb floro. For line conditioner, definitely a few sprays of KVD Line and Lure. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 19, 2014 Super User Posted April 19, 2014 The reason I say the Floro mostly is because PP 30# line is 8lb line diameter and I'd only use that one a 50 sized reel or a reel with a spool that could handle the diameter. I'd say go 40lb PP if you want to use braid. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted April 19, 2014 Super User Posted April 19, 2014 I would use the 12lb fluoro, if it were me. Quote

Super User lmbfisherman Posted April 19, 2014 Super User Posted April 19, 2014 I'm no technical expert, but someone more qualified may help you. In general I learned that my 50 sized reels (Chronarch 50MGs, 50E and Curado 50E) can handle lighter line than my 200 sized reels. I find that when I use small diameter line I get more line digging in, backlashes and trouble on the bigger reel spools. My 50 sized reels I can easily put on 8lb diameter line and not have the same issues. Not only that my smaller reels can handle lighter weights easier than my bigger reels. The main issue I think with the reel you are using is the braid would dig in and cause issues on the cast, causing you to backlash or make your cast suddenly stop. (Personal experience) Quote
Fishingmd Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I have 30# PP braid and I'm having a hell of a time with backlash on my pro qualifier. Might be this is the first season using a baitcaster lol. I Quote

Does the cast stop in mid-flight at times? Try 40lb braid at the minimum. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 19, 2014 Super User Posted April 19, 2014 In every manufacturer´s website the line capacity of a reel is listed, what you need to know to have an aproximate idea of how much line a reel can take is to know the equivalent or average diameter, in this case, 30 lb braided line has aproximately the same diameter of 8 lb test nylon. Smokinal Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I use 20 Power Pro Super Slick on 9 of my baitcasters, of all different makes, and have never had any issues with it digging in. As far a fluoro goes; I can't quite grasp why people jump through the hoops and go to such great lengths to make the stuff even usable...soaking in hot water the night before, spraying every 37 minutes etc... just go braid with a fluoro leader...imho...smooth as silk. 1 Quote
Fishingmd Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Kicker- yes it does, a lot actually I thought maybe it was because I was throwing weightless senkos and such? Frustrates the hell out of me and usually throw it down and grab my spinning gear. Quote
Arv Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 30#PP and use a flouro leader if you need to. The only time I really get digging in w/ the 30# braid is when I get a nasty snag and pull parallel to my line w/ my rod and reel. If that happens, I know to take care of the digging before I try and chuck my lure out there again. Quote
Mikell Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 Thanks for all the info guys, I just went ahead and spooled it with the floro. I have been wanting to try floro for a while and the sunline super should be better than the red label lol if i wind up not liking it ill probably go with the power pro. Quote

How do you like the super slick? ive been wanting to try it but does it really perform better than the reg. power pro braid? Quote
masterbass Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I use 30lb pp with 12lb fluoro leader on almost all of my bait casters and I don't have any problems. When the occasional back lash occurs, I can pick them out easily. I used straight fluoro when I first started and the backlashes were horrible to get out. Quote
The Fisher Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 12 lb seagur Invizix does it for me on 4 baitcasters. I also have 2 with 30 lb power pro, 12 lb mono backing and 12 lb Invizix leader. Only time I get backlash is when I forget to adjust the reels when I change baits or weights. Quote
Mikell Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 sweet thanks so i atleast have good size braid and floro so i have a few options it seems at hand without having to purchase new line if i dont wish to do so lol anyone use the sunline reactionFC the blue/purple tinted stuff thats fairly new Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted April 20, 2014 Super User Posted April 20, 2014 I prefer straight fluorocarbon for any feel base technique unless i'm punching. then it's straight braid. Quote
