macmichael Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 My new curado isn't as smooth as I thought it would be. It's my only left handed bait caster. Think maybe that could be the problem? All my other reels are righties. Any thoughts? Thanks Quote
Diggy Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Are your other reels the same model curado? Maybe you got a lemon if so. Quote
rbreedi1 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Which curado is it? Shouldnt make a difference if its right or left. Quote

nowicki2005 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Wait what? Lefty? Please tell me you speak of the curado 200i! He probably bought a G. I don't believe that the lefties are out yet. Also, if you normally use a right handed reel and go to a left handed, you won't crank in a s smoothly. That is also why on a right handed spinning reel you reel with your left and a right handed bait casting reel you feel with your right. A spinning reel has a wider circle Queen you turn the handle while a bait caster is tighter. Picture trying to draw a small circle as fast as you can with your dominant right hand. Then try and do it with your left. Which is smoother and more natural? Which circles actually look like circles? Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted April 18, 2014 Super User Posted April 18, 2014 Its not going to be as smooth as a reel of respectable comparison, that's had 1 or 2 years on the water experience. Give it a few outings and break it in, I bet you'll speak differently. My Ci4 out of the box isn't as smooth as my 200e7, but I haven't even fished the Ci4 yet. My e7 has about 3+ seasons now and has been cleaned and lubed once each season, sometimes twice. They need some lovin' to break out the true potential based off my new reel experiences. 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 Smooth means different things to different people. Are you looking an effortless cranking like air, or a fluid feel like string warm syrup, or a positive, mechanical feel with no grinding? On top of that each reel has its own personality. No two feel exactly he same all the time. For sure, left vs right has no affect. Quote

The performance and feel of the Curados you tuned for me can be described the flutter of an angle's wing. ghoti. has been playing with a Core 50MG I gave him a few months ago. The reel started out perfect, but I'm exciting to find out how much better it will be! Quote

macmichael Posted April 18, 2014 Author Posted April 18, 2014 Today it worked better than in the past. Someone said it's newness might be the problem. I agree with that. Thanks for all the help. Quote

No two feel exactly he same all the time. For sure, left vs right has no affect. Thanks for saying this. I think smooth and light are two things that are overdramatized in fishing these days. I have a Chronarch100B paired with a Crucial spinnerbait rod and I would say it's as smooth and light as can be....now you ask some of these other guys and they'd say compared to their zillion and loomis combo it feels like a brick....now that would be overdramatization the likes of young and the restless or days of our lives....but to each his own. I've never owned a Curado that wasn't smooth, e, g, d....all nice reels. I'm sure that new Curado is very sweet too. I hope you find happiness with your Curado, it's a good reel. Like someone else said, it is possible that you got a bad one but not likely. Good luck! Quote
Preytorien Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I myself like a more "solid" feel than "finesse." I even like to use a little more grease on the gears to give it a firm/syrup feeling when I'm reeling. I've tried it with minimal grease and just didn't personally care for it as much. Sure it requires a bit more frequency in cleaning, but I love the feeling of my solid Curado G with nice solid Crucial, it just feels good, and when I feel good about it, I fish more confidently and have more fun....ain't that what it's all about. Give your G some time, let it do some work.....it'll feel great I promise Quote
