Hi everyone,

I'm looking into the elite 4x HDI,  I can buy it for $169.99 w/ a 83/200 transducer or i can spend $199.99 and get the 83/200 455/800 transducer.

I was looking for some insight on the pros and cons of both and wanted to know if the +$30.00 is worth it.  I fish small ponds and lakes ranging in depth from 5'-50'

Thanks

If you want the Down Scan capability, you have to use the 4-frequency transducer.

The unit will not be a HDI unit with the dual frequency transducer, it wil be a more expensive Elite 4x.

Once you use the imaging technolgy, it may change the way you fish since you will get picture-like detail of the bottom and water column. You will see what stuff looks like rather than just blobs on the display that 2D does

I have been wondering the same thing. What is the difference, in elementary terms, of the two?

83/200 is for 2d sonar. 455/800 is for imaging sonar. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

So, do the SI and DI units come with 83/200 and 4550/800?

Humminbird has some less expensive Side Imaging models that just have a single Imaging frequency (455 kHz) and 83/200 kHz for 2D sonar.

The Down Imaging units have 200/455 kHz for 2D sonar out of the box and 455/800 kHz for Down Imaging.

The more sofisticated units can be changed to 83/200 kHz for 2D sonar. There is a trolling motor DI puck that is tuned for that setting.
