I don't mind the heat for the most part but by the time i got out it was already high 90's and windy as crap.  I lost about 4lbs in straight water weight and i was pretty well hydrated.  I am just glad i took the advice of my gut and didn't go for a long ride as I am sure i would have been even more dehydrated.  Going for a long ride tomorrow morning....might even try to go to 75miles but going to at least do 50.

With the weather being pretty dang nice I decided to go on a longer ride today and try and break the 50 mile mark.  Ended up doing 52.5 miles at a 16.5 MPH pace so I am pleased.  Still have a decent amount of work to do in the next two months to get up to the speed I would like but even if I don't accomplish that, I am pretty confident I could do the event next weekend if i had to.

Had to take almost two weeks off due to tweaking my back but I did get out today.  I think the rest actually helped as i was not even pushing it and did almost 30 miles and averaged a shade under 17mph.

Up to almost $1,000 in donations too with about 6 weeks to go or so before the ride so i think things are going pretty well.

After attempting a ride on Monday where i had a flat, no biggie really except my brand new spare had a hole too I decided to go out today.  Weather was pretty nice and even though I had mexican food last night (not the best pre-ride food) I ventured out this morning.  Ended up riding about 49 miles at right around 17mph which I am pleased with.  One thing that was cool is that this was my first ride with my new Garmin edge 500 bike computer which has a heart rate monitor, GPS and cadence (counts each pedal stroke) meter.  A lot of information that i am not sure what to do with yet but I want to start training using heart rate zones a little more so this will help.  Anyways, here is the link to the ride and the link to donate if you are still thinking about it :)

Way to go Bud, keep up the good work!

Man, September is coming quick!

Yeah it really is. I could do the ride right now but would be hurting most likely on day two. I am starting next week to really up my mileage and go on back to back days. Should be fun :)

Went out today to ride and was trying to utilize my heart rate and cadence sensor to help manage my effort.  I kept my heart rate in the aerobic zone for pretty much the entire ride and cadence was between 75-85 for the most part of the ride.  Turned out it did help and i felt stronger throughout and didn't feel like I was working too hard.  Ended up doing just under 30 miles and maintained a 17.2 MPH average based on the GPS.  Not too bad and definitely still have some left in the tank which is good cause now i have to go cut my grass.....

Still time to donate everyone and every little bit helps.

Had a little snafu with my pedals last week and ended up breaking one so I had to order some new ones.  Unfortunately that meant no riding for almost a week.  I was able to get out yesterday and today though.  Still need some adjustment on the pedal and shoe alignment but it is getting closer after putting almost 70 miles on them.  Hopefully tomorrow they will be perfect as i am shooting for 50+ miles.

Rode 43 miles yesterday and another 25 today.  It's time to start going harder on back to back days and this week is hen it all starts since there is only a month to go.

Third day in a row i was able to get out and ride.  Did 47 miles today and i think with this being the first time i rode three days in a row i was feeling it a little bit at about the 40 mile mark.  Still maintained an ok average of 16.5mph.  I am gonna be out of town till sunday evening so i figured i would have ample time to recover before i ride again on monday next week.  I gotta figure out what to eat for breakfast though to give me a little more energy.

as far as caloric intake goes, I have no idea.  I never track it but i know i eat all the time but unfortunately it isn't always the best food for me but it's all good.  I have ridden about 640 miles so far this year but that should be a lot higher if i didn't have to miss almost three weeks of riding time with a back issue and breaking a pedal...i should be well over 1,000 by the time the ride happens in september.

Had a good ride yesterday even though it kicked my butt because i wasn't hydrated enough.  I drank 4 water bottles and still wasn't sweating like i should have been.  To put it in perspective, earlier in the week i rode 30 miles and didn't even drink one full water bottle and felt strong at the end.  This ride was 55 and i was running on fumes...go figure but to be fair, i also didn't eat a good breakfast either.  Oh well such is life.

I did break $1,000 in donations though so that is a good thing!!

Anyone who is still interested in donating there is still time.

With the ride a week from saturday i decided this week to go for back to back 75 mile days to see how i hold up....today was day 1 and i ended up doing 76 miles and maintained a 16mph average so not to bad....i had to make a pit stop at the house though to let the new puppy out which was not the best thing for me as i had a tough time getting back into a groove for the last 20 miles...he was happy though :)

Up over the $1,000 mark in donations and still time to donate if anyone is interested.

Day number 2 on my back to back days to simulate the actual ride next weekend....didn't get 75 but i did get 70 miles in about 4 1/2 hours.  The heat was getting to me as i could not drink enough but that is how it goes in the what of the summer i guess.  I was definitely weaker than yesterday but feel ok overall.  Nothing but shorter rides from here on out though with nothing after wednesday of next week.....

Still time to donate everyone every bit counts.

Well you make the time if it is important to you and it doesn't hurt that i am currently unemployed either :)

As far as my butt being sore, yeah it is a little but you get used to it after riding a bunch of miles, i am right at about 1,000 for the year which is a little less than i thought i would have but a few bike issues and a back injury that flared up took away almost three weeks of riding time.  I also went with two pairs of bike shorts for yesterdays ride so that helps.  My legs are a little sore today but not too bad considering i probably did the equivalent of probably about 45,000 25lb squats lol

do you use a foam roller?

They are so helpful after I run and it may help your back as well.

yeah I have one but my problems are not muscular so all the foam rolling in the world won't really help too much.  They are nice for my legs though

I'm assuming tomorrow? Best of luck Bud!

Yes sir, ride is tomorrow and sunday.  Tomorrow is gonna kind of suck of because the heat is going to be brutal , probably up over 90 with high humidity by the time i finish.  Sunday should be a lot better with the high only suppose to be 79.   We are slated to start around 7:30 tomorrow but i really wish it was about an hour earlier.  I am shooting for a 5 hour total ride time including breaks and going to try and keep my average speed around 16mph or so depending on what group i tag along with during the ride.  I have done all my training solo up to this point and riding in a group makes a considerable difference as far as effort goes.  Drafting from others takes about 30% less energy so that will be nice if I can find a decent group to ride with.....

At least the route is pretty flat for the most part and i have ridden probably the first 50 miles before so no huge surprises :)

So...how'd ya do?

Well i would love to say the ride went awesome and i was able to ride it in 4 hours with no problems.  Unfortunately that was not the case.  Earlier in the week my son had a little stomach thing going on and i thought i was in the clear.  Well, friday i felt kind of off but still was able to eat as i was carb loading for the upcoming weekend of riding.  By about 9:00 friday night the stomach bug caught up with me.  Without getting into any gory details, let's just say i had plenty of liquid coming out from all the water i was drinking but not through the conventional locations.....this went on through the night so i was not able to ride.  Yesterday was the first day i was able to eat without fear of my gut instantly liquefying anything that was ingested....i was really bummed but at the same time the purpose was to raise money for charity and that i did to the tune of over $1300 so that is a good thing.\

I do want to thank everyone on here who did donate though even though i was not able to ride.
