Super User bigbill Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 I'm wondering if I should use the cork sealer on all my new rods? Does anyone else do this? There is a sealer made for cork on fishing rod handles. I use my rods for a very long time. I figure since my new rods cost a little more why not seal the cork handle? Good ideas? Or not a good idea? Super User flyfisher Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 I don't but that i because i don't like cork handles except on my fly rods and i haven't sealed those....i figure the added grime acts as a sealant by itself and can easily be cleaned with a little fine sandpaper if i feel so inclined to do so. jbw252 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 Blood and fish slime seem to keep cork good for decades. 1 Quote

I bought it from a local fishing shop here in VA. 1 Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 16, 2014 Super User Posted April 16, 2014 I just clean them every now and then with magic eraser, I don't seal them. Quote
MDBowHunter Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I don't seal mine, I don't like the finish that it leaves behind. Besides with a piece of scotchbrite, a little dish soap and some elbow grease they will look brand new in 5 minutes Quote
Super User South FLA Posted April 16, 2014 Super User Posted April 16, 2014 1. Clean if dirty with http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amagic%20erasers 2. Seal with http://www.u-40.com/corkseal.html One coat is all you need. Some manufactures seal cork prior to selling, others don't you can ask the manufacturer, since only one coat is recommended on initial seal. Quote
