i consider myself to be a pretty big spinnerbait fisherman and ive heard alot about chatterbaits/bladed swim jig and their succes. All the videos on them ive seen about how to fish them and whatnot says that they throw them in the same spots as spinnerbaits so my question is when would you throw a spinnerbait over a chatterbait/bladed swim jig and vice versa.

I almost always throw a chatterbait rather than a spinnerbait, mostly because the bass see a lot more spinnerbaits around here. They come through grass better than spinnerbaits as well, for me at least. On windy days I will usually throw a spinnerbait first, but on calmer days I'll grab the chatterbait.

I like spinnerbaits for covering open water and bladed jigs for fishing around cover/structure. They say throw bladed jigs in dirty water but, i feel as they work in any water clarity. Honestly i'd rather use bladed jigs over spinnerbaits nowadays. They are alot more verstile IMO. You can fish the whole water column and can fish them excatly like a jig with a extra action. Can fish em fast or dead slow. So many different retrieves once you fish it for a decent time an get the hang of em. Also like how you can throw a craw trailer and hop it off the bottom or fish it like a spinnerbait with a swimbait trailer. Thats just keeping it simple too... Many combinations out there.

A quality spinnerbait can be yoyo'd or drug on bottom and maintain some blade action. It will also flutter when you kill it after hitting cover. Bladed jig only vibrates with tension on line

I trow them all at the same stuff, and situations. I let the fish tell me which one is their preference... more often than not spinnerbait gets the job done the best for me...

I like spinnerbaits when I want something with more flash, other than that I go with a bladed jig first a majority of the time.

I throw them at the most beautiful bush that I know is loaded with big largemouth...and hang it deep n the first cast. It a love hate thing.

You need to get some bladed jigs that are weedless  :eyebrows:

I like the chatter when the water is a bit colder, or very stained to muddy, or to show them something different. In stained, 50+ degrees, I tend to favor a spinnerbait, but I let the fish tell me what they want. I find a chatter to be a hybrid of a spinnerbait and a Lipless crank, and sometimes a jig.

I do it like this:

Swim jig: clear water

Spinnerbait: stained water, or when its' really really windy/choppy clear water

Chatterbait: when my buddy is out-fishing me with one LOL.

Spinnerbait : pre spawn ( fall and spring time around wood  / grass, windy days)

chatterbait: pre spawn to summer almost all year round ( grass, wood , docks, in wind

swim jig: year round, summer, around grass and docks, when it is calmer and the bass are short striking a chatter bait.
