Texasangler14 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Is there one in their line that can throw a square bill well, but also dive about 15' and not be overpowered? Quote
brandonss Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I have a St Croix mojo bass 7 foot medium heavy with a moderate action I throw square bills an 1/2 ounce traps with it I haven't tried a deep diver on it yet but the rod rating says it will handle up to a 1 ounce bait 1 Quote

The 15' baits are going to be the very edge of their range of baits you can fish comfortably with them though. Quote
cbfishalot Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Wow, thats a great question. My first reaction was NO, not any that they make anymore. The old premier glass rods (black blank or the older blue blanks) for sure. The 2 rods that I would say that can handle both baits that your asking about as well as lipless cranks are: St Croix Premier Casting 7'0 Med Heavy Moderate or the St Croix Legend Xtream 7'2 Med Moderate. There are 2 choices in 2 different price ranges out of the St Croix line-up. I have over 40 St Croix rods and I think the crankbait rod that can handle the largest range of baits is the premier 7'0 MH MOD. However, its my least used cranking rod because i use bait specific rods more often. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 Not any that I have had. I had the 7' MH/Mod Mojo....it was good for 1/2 oz lipless baits, 1.5/2.5 sized squarebills, and mid range bait up to about a DT-10. It was slightly over-matched with 5xd's, but not to the point where you couldn't throw them on that rod ..............6xd's/DT-16's.......forget it. My other St Croix Cranking rod was a LTB 7'10" H/Mod. "magnum cranker" that rod was better for the deeper baits ( 6xd/DT-16) that the MH Mojo was not good with, but was terrible with anything other than the big, deep diving stuff. Quote
tritondriver Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 cbfishalot hit on the head with the st.Croix premiers I have a boat load of all types and wouldn't trade them..i don't normally throw a crank at that depth and don't think the premier crankbait rod would handle that depth but just fine at shallower depths.. Super User J Francho Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 I have an Avid AVC70MHM. Works fine for throwing either type bait do long as it is within the range. Quote
