Crankbait Storage

I have all my tackle in various models of plano stowaway boxes.

 

Do any of you guys put more than one crankbait (hard baits) in each spot?

 

If you do put more than one in the same spot do you worry about the hooks dulling or scratching the other bait?

I store my baits in separate slots when I'm not fishing.  I decide what I am going to use each outing and pack accordingly.  I want a limited amount of boxes to lug around when I fish tournaments or bank fish.  

 

I don't worry to much about scratching the baits unless they are the big swim baits that I have spent a chunk of cash on one.  For those I use hook bonnets.  I want most of my crank baits smashing into rocks or timber.  They get beat up pretty good at times.

Plano makes a crankbait box that keeps the hooks separated. They come in two or three sizes.  They're not too expensive. You can sometimes find them at Walmart. Also at Dick's, Cabelas, etc.

I changed to the plano crankbait box as got tired of separating the hooks when trying to get a bait out.

I put small rubber bands around the trebel hooks. This keeps the hooks tucked under the bait and keeps them from getting tangled

If I had a boat each lure I have would probably have it's own space, but as I don't, they don't.

As a co angler space is a premium. I've gone through 3 different tackle bags trying to find the one which isn't to big or bulky to carry but more importantly one that wouldnt be overly wide or long to inhibit my boater as he moves around his boat.

The one I have now hold's 7 boxes vertically (which makes them easier to remove) I' d rather have it a little higher than longer and wider.

So each individual hard bait must share it's space, but I separate by bait style...cranks and jerks in one box, frogs in thier own, jigs and trailers in another etc.

Again because of space, I can't carry a dozen bags of plastics either

Soft plastics are separated by style, all sharing a box which are labeled...sticks, creature, swim type etc.

Im a firm believer in taking what I got for every tournament (I learned that the hard way)

If Im just messin around and trying new stuff locally, then I'll separate them out individually.

I always cram as many as I can into a space. Sure, it'd be great to have them all separated, but I've got way too many baits to do that with. With the size they make the tackle trays, there's way too much wasted space to put one bait in each even if you use the thinner ones. As far as worrying about if the baits will get scratched or hooks dulled, I don't. Crankbaits will get beat up more fishing than they do sitting and I can't say I've ever actually seen damage from them just being stored in tray.

I keep all my cranks separated. Drives me nuts when I've gotta shake 8 others loose to get the one I want.

I like Plano CDS boxes and store them in their own slot.

Bass Pro used to have the best crank bait storage boxes.  They were just a little bit wider than a regular 3700, double sided, with V shaped slots on either side.  If enough of us ***** enough, maybe they will bring them back.  I have 8 or 9 or them.  I should have bought more when they were still available, but WHO KNEW that BPS would stop carrying a well thought out, well engineered product.  I have several of the different sizes of plano crank bait boxes as well.

I remember those. I have a couple, stashed somewhere. Gonna have to find those and start using them again.

For the cranks that I use on a regular basis, I put hook covers on them to keep the baits from getting scratched up, and keep them apart.  For the cranks I find, or that I don't use, I put those in a box for storage. Two or three to a slot.

all my cranks are in  regular trays stacked up on each other- no damage.

Most of mine are still in grocer bags on the boat though as I tend to lose one and just open up a new package there on the spot- I don't keep them for all that long.

i store mine in just a regular plano boxes. i have a box that i take with me where i out the ones i want to use in it.

I was able to find a picture of the farmer's crankbait storage container.   I believe it is only one bait per compartment though.   However, this container can also double as storage for a wide variety of his baits and rigs as well.

I use a 3700 deep Plano box for my cranks. I put hook keepers onto all the hooks. Remove all the boxes dividers and place the baits into the box. You can fit a lot of baits in one box.
