War Eagle 44 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Froggin' season has started on my local lakes and I couldn't be happier as they are my favorite way to catch fish. I was just wondering if any of you guys make any modifications to your frogs before you fish them? By this I'm not really talking about cutting the legs shorter or slightly flexing the hook, I mean like changing the legs altogether or maybe changing hooks. My reason for asking is because I just finished changing the legs on one of my favorite frogs, a Bronzeye in Outback color, in advance of my next trip to the lake. It's a brand new frog, never hit the water. I changed them because in my opinion the legs the frog comes with don't match the body nearly as well as they could. Maybe I'm just OCD about that sort of thing but it's just something I enjoy doing. So lets hear it, you guys change anything? Quote

BuckMaxx Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I'd paint the belly black with a perement marker. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 I'd paint the belly black with a perement marker. No I didn't mean would you change anything about my frog, I was asking was there any changes you make to your frogs. Quote
BuckMaxx Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 That is what I do to my frogs. I throw white belly before the sun gets high then throw black bellys during the day. I think they can pick up the siloette better again the sun. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 I don't do much of anything to them............other than leg trimming, which everyone else does. I have added (or removed) rattles when I thought it was needed, and I have taken a sharpie to the belly to add some color, but that is about it. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 I only trim the legs or add rattles. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 A leg trim and a color change here and there, and I am good to go. Quote
gmoberly15 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 How do you change the legs? Take the legs out and replace them with a jig skirt or cut the tentacles of a tube a gorilla glue them on. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 I trim about 3/4 an inch off the legs so it will walk better. With frogs that take on water I will drill a small hole in the butt of the frog with a 1/8 or 3/16 drill bit. Works great. Quote
TorqueConverter Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I had some frogs that would take of water badly and sink. I used a soldering iron to make a new hole in the head and placed heat shrink around the hook to fill the old hole in the body. This relocated the hole to the part of the frog above the waterline and prevented it from taking on water and sinking. I tried silicone sealant/gasket maker to seal the hole but it wouldn't stay in. The heat shrink worked really well. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 I usually just fish them straight. Quote
