Super User J Francho Posted August 28, 2019 Super User Posted August 28, 2019 Slow way down for Conesus. If it's sunny, skip docks in the mid day sun. Quote

Imbit Posted September 1, 2019 Posted September 1, 2019 Anybody been out on Otisco ? Had a good day out there last summer - heading up for LMB and hopefully a tiger muskie or two in a few weeks. Have a small bass boat & launch at the marina, so usually fish up from the causeway ... far shoreline. Senko's and spinnerbaits were the best last time we were up there. Any tips or advice for techniques/what areas are best to fish Otisco (mostly for LMB) ? Many thx ! Quote

I wouldn't count anything out. That lake is loaded with big fish. To limit yourself to a 3' range is asking for trouble. Tie on a drop shot, and try 15-20' ledges. Go shallow. You never know. That's what makes that place a challenge. You know there's fish everywhere, just gotta find the ones that are biting. Quote

Your getting too hung up on specific depths. Like J Francho said, fish for fish that are willing to bite. I have won tournaments there with no two fish coming from the same depth....and I have also won there with all five coming from one spot in 10 mins. Food for thought... whenever you go to a tournament on conesus, NONE of the guys that finish in the money ever caught there bags exactly the same way. Go out there, gain some confidence in a few basic things and fish the heck out of them. Running around clueless and listening to dock talk is going to have you chasing your tail. 3 Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted September 8, 2019 Super User Posted September 8, 2019 Tournament results since last report. Sunday Aug 11th: Fished my club team tournament solo on Silver, as all my regular partners who are in this club were busy. Tuff bite on Silver that day, the lake didn't fish to it's potential, but I took 2nd and cashed with a 14lb bag. Winning team had 16lbs. Fished the next two Tuesday night 3 hour, 3 fish limit working man team tournaments on Conesus solo 8/13, and 8/20. They were last minute impulses and I didn't line up any partners. Finished smack dab in the middle of the pack both nights with 9.5, and 8.5 lb bags for my best three each night. Friday Aug. 23rd I had event #5 in my weekday solo angler series. This one was on Conesus. Did OK with 16lbs, a couple places out of the money.... Winner had 19lbs, and 17lbs took the 2nd and 3rd place cashing spots. BUT it was a good enough performance to move into 3rd place in our AOY race with 3 events to go. Sunday Aug. 25th: Fished my club team tournament on Almond Dam, was able to get a partner this time, and we took 2nd and cashed with 11lbs. It's a small lake, and not a hog factory....and literally the 4th time I have ever been there, first time in late summer. Winners had 13lbs. Thursday Aug.29th: Final 3 hour, 3 fish limit evening team working man tournament on Silver for 2019, and my partner and I took 2nd and cashed in this as well with 9.60 lbs. Winner had 10.03lbs Sunday Sept. 1st: Another Club team event, this time on Cuba lake. My 2nd time there this year, and it was a disaster trying to fish for largemouth the first tournament. Targeted the much more abundant and willing smallmouth this time and finished 4th with 14.47lbs. Winners had 17lbs, 2nd and 3rd also both had 14lbs and change...we were close..14.51 took the last cashing spot. Today, Sunday Sept. 8th: Another club team event...back on Silver this time. We won quite comfortably with 20.36lbs, 2nd had 11lbs, and third had 10. SO since last report there's been 1 win, and three 2nds in the span of about a month. Bringing the YTD totals to: 22 Tournaments fished 5 wins, and 6 2nd place money finishes. It's been a good year so far. 3 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted October 17, 2019 Super User Posted October 17, 2019 Looks like the winter lul has started early this year lol. I made it out last week for a few hours in Johnson’s creek above the dam to steer clear of all the salmon snaggers. Managed like 5 pike and lost what felt like a bass but never saw it but it didn’t fight like the typical pike does hooks pulled though and I lost it. Hopefully getting out this afternoon if the rain lets up probably my last time out this season with duck hunting starting Saturday that will take up my free time. Quote

Been up a few weeks now by all the social media posts from guys on the oak, Johnson’s, and Bert dam. I was gonna hit sandy today but then I went out and decided it was to windy to kayak in not being as die hard as I was before. So I walked the canal and tried the quarry by my house managed one small bass and got cold lol came home now relaxing waiting for dinner Quote
Krux5506 Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 Best part about salmon trib season is it keeps so many people distracted from how good the bass fishing is. 3 Quote
NolanEckert21 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Was thinking about the up coming season and had a genuine question about fishing mornings and evenings on silver, or conesus. I was wondering what you guys targeted in end of June to beginning of August. Also do you find yourself throwing a popper or spook or like a frog? Thx in advance Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 7, 2020 Super User Posted March 7, 2020 I’m just looking to avoid all the pleasure boaters in that time frame! conesus: Poppers definitely produce on that lake. I wreck them on a Popmax at the north end in early June through about mid July. Dawn and dusk. Mid day, it’s all about pounding the deeper weed lines. Josh and T-rigs. If you find sloppy pockets, a frog can work. You’ll catch some picks and maybe a small tiger too. Good luck. Can’t wait for it to warm up! Quote
NolanEckert21 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Thx, I like to throw rebel poppers. I will have to try a max... I’m guessing your working them pretty slow as soon as the summer progresses? Quote
walleyecrazy Posted March 19, 2020 Posted March 19, 2020 Got out for a few hours today for some bank fishing. Not a ton of action, but I managed one solid one. I missed two bites dragging a finesse jig in the same area. I threw back to that spot with a 6thsense Quake Thud and gave it a couple of rips and that got the reaction strike. I actually thought I snagged a rock for the first few seconds. 2 Quote

walleyecrazy Posted March 25, 2020 Posted March 25, 2020 That was at Burden Lake in Averill Park. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 29, 2020 Super User Posted March 29, 2020 Dragged my boat out of the weeds Thursday, pulled the cover off to make sure no critters were living in it, kicked the tires, charged the batteries and went fishing on Silver Friday for the first time in 2020. Good first day, with 9 smallmouth boated. Two over 5lbs, three over 4lbs, and 22+ for the best five. Still plenty cold as far as water temps go, 38-41 depending on where I went. Wind died around 2pm, and the sun popped out. Bite died with that. Called it a day at 4 after going 2 hours without anything but a couple pike. I really slacked off my reports last year, not for lack of fishing and catching, just didn't think much about it. I'll try to keep up better this year 5 Quote

When I lived in the city, this place was like my close to home, almost daily getaway. Really an incredible fishery. I'm unsure of any other inland bodies of water in the area that have substantial smallmouth populations. In the dead of winter we have caught 4+ pounders extremely deep, and slow. Largemouth obviously plentiful as well, but to be able to catch great lakes sized smallies 5 mins from home in an old rock quarry from shore was really something. Hmmmm. I'm from Rochester and don't recognize that place. Care to share? ? Quote
