Got the boat out yesterday for the first time this year.  worked out a couple first trip kinks (like getting to the ramp and realizing I forgot to put gas in the tank..) got the motor running and have a few fixes on the list now.  Didn't get to fish much which resulted in my first skunk on keuka but it sure felt good to make a few casts.

Yeah!  Anytime you need to shoot.  I have a rifle range and a pistol range with steel targets.

Did you go back to Silver today?

I was there for a couple hours after work, and it stunk again. One Pike, and one bite off was all I could muster up. The bass are taking there sweet time getting going this year. And I don't think I have been there when they are biting well. This time of year timing is 3/4's of the battle.

Yeah, went out early, right at first light, which was a mistake with the wind and cloud cover.  Managed to get ONE bass (mid 4s) off a downed tree with a jointed perch hard bait.  I threw what seemed like the whole box until about 1030 and called it.

I really need to start hitting/learning some of the other lakes in the area.  See some different scenery.

Not to bad an evening after work tonight. I fished for about 2 hours. Started looking for largemouth and fished for them the first hour with only a couple pike to show for it. Switched to smallmouth just before dark, and caught a 4-11, 4-4, and 4-1 in the first and only smallmouth spot I hit.

I fished today for a bit, got ran off the lake when the rain and wind kicked up. I had my son with me, so didn't push the weather.

Went out this past weekend. Water was only 35*F and skimmed over in areas at dawn. Caught a small lake trout, slow day but warm calm day and great to be back out.

Is this on Lake George? I only ask because if it is, I'm surprised to not see more snow on the banks.

Hit Silver again today with not much luck it was cold, windy, and overcast. Last hope is tomorrow until I have to head south for a bit.

I launched just after daybreak and was loaded up and gone by 9:15 because I had other stuff I wanted to do today.   Caught a bakers dozen of smallmouth and a giant pike.   Best five smallmouth just under 21 pounds.    The big girls are chewing.

Nice!  I was out there between about 11-3 and was the only boat out.

Had to head back to MD a little early so didn't make it back out.  It was a tough week for me, but I am still a relatively new fisherman so I still get excited just to be on the water trying to figure the fish out.

My evening outing tonight was a carbon copy of last night. Struggled to get anything going for largemouth, and with about half an hour of daylight left pulled into a smallmouth spot and caught a couple more good ones over 4lbs.

Silver was slightly better this evening. Caught 6 good largemouth, and 1 decent smallie.

I fished from 11am till 3pm today. Not bad. Not a barn burner, but my best day so far.

I caught 6 largemouth before the rain, nothing special, all just average 2.5-2.75lb size fish, with one over 3. As well as a couple pike.

In the rain I caught 7 smallmouth, with the best five being a 4-12, 4-7, a matching pair of 4-3's, and a 4-1. The other two were upper 2lb range fish.

Looks to be turning around a bit, guess I timed my vacation about a week or so early.

I didn't have to go into work until after lunch today, so I hit the lake for a couple hours. Not on fire.

I caught 4 average sized largemouth and a pike poking around in some backwaters, and one 3lb smallmouth and a walleye on the lake before I ran out of time.

Fished for about two hours after work yesterday and it was an OK night. Caught 8 largemouth before I ran out of daylight. No hogs, but a couple 4lbers, and the rest all solid 3's.

Yes that was LG. Snow was very sparse, a stray pile here or there. Probably still a bit on mountain tops though.

So excited!  Boat is going in Conesus on Saturday.  Marina is going to leave it out for me to clean/stock on Friday evening and the maiden voyage for the season will be Saturday morning.  So, where are the fish in WNY--shallow or deep?  I've been out the last two weekends on Honeyoe in my kayak and didn't get a sniff.  Both days it was quite windy, and better safe than sorry, I stayed very close to shore hoping for some LM cruising.  Nothing.

@ww2farmer and others who've been out on Silver or elsewhere, where are the fish?  What was the water temp when you've been out?  Over the next couple of days, it doesn't look particularly warm, unfortunately.

As usual, thanks!

Finally things lined up and I was there when it was on fire today.

Started with smallmouth and had a good in the first 5 minutes, but then I went awhile with only a small keeper after that. So I bailed on them and went looking for largemouth.

Found them to be in the biting mood today. I stopped counting at my 20th one over 3lbs, with the best five that I hung on the scale being 4-10, 4-7, 4-4, 4-1, and 3-12. Still haven't cracked the 5lb barrier yet this season, but it's early. I usually have a couple by now, but some some years the big ones seem to bite better in cold water, and other years they seem to bite better the warmer it gets. The jury is still out on what this year will be.

@rmcguirk.........Water temps as of today on Silver are 49-54 depending on the area, and what end of the lake your on. Largemouth have been shallow for the most part. I have caught quite a few in as little as a foot of water. The smallmouth have been just outside their normal spawning areas in 8-12 feet of water, with a few random ones a little shallower,  a few a little deeper, and still a few yet very deep in 20+ feet.

@ww2farmer:  Thanks!  As always, you provide great, actionable intel on what's going on.  Much appreciated and hope to capitalize tomorrow and Sunday.

My dad and I went to Conesus today.   Water was pretty muddy in some areas and nicely stained in others.   No big debris floating around which we were worried about.   Water temp 45-48.   No numbers and size was so-so.   My biggest was a 4-10 and my dad's was a 5-5.   Everything caught in less than six feet of water.    I had the front wheels of my truck a couple feet into the water to float the boat.   Water is high and the ramp must be even more gradual near the top than midway down.

@wnybassman:  Thanks!  Super info and obviously timely. I can't wait to get out there. And, if my buddy and I catch two that top 10 lbs, it will be a good day!
