Super User ww2farmer Posted June 4, 2016 Super User Posted June 4, 2016 Trip #34.............A solid yet unspectacular 7 or so hours this morning. I finished mowing first cutting hay yesterday (I think)..........so I took today off..............first Sat. I have had off in months. Got on the water at about 5:30 am and fished till 1pm Caught 32 bass.........and they were all, except for one, largemouth. As well as 1,325,579 rock bass...............or so it seemed. Clone upper 2lb to mid 3lb fish were the rule of the day. A pair of 4lbers made it to the boat. One largemouth, and the lone smallie of the day. Today was all about skipping a wacky rigged yum dinger  under docks. The first of many many days this year where that is the pattern. The only fish I did not catch under a dock was the smallmouth.   Quote
PAGreg Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Decided to try the Western arm of Keuka today, launching from the state park. I had never used that launch and quickly found out its where all the pleasure boats launch from. Never again. I was surprised to find water temps in the mid to upper 60s still. The larger lakes down here in PA are well into the mid 70 range. As a result, still didn't find many fish up on docks. Best catch of the day was a 3 lb smallmouth I caught from under a dock that the owners had strung a rope under to keep people from fishing under it. The dock sat about 6"Â off the water with the rope 3"Â off the water. I laughed when I saw it and skipped a bubble gum caffeine shad right under it. Got nailed as soon as it reached the middle of the dock. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 6, 2016 Super User Posted June 6, 2016 Trip #35 This afternoon for about 2 hours I noticed while fishing shallow yesterday the massive amounts of bluegill spawning colonies around the lake, every year once I first see this, I grab the kids, the UL's and a handfull of micro squarebills. I would just pull up to within casting distance of the colonies, let them crank and wind over the top of them until the action slowed down and move them to the next one. They caught tons of bluegills, rock bass, and each of them caught a decent sized largemouth, my younger daughter caught a 3lber, and my older daughter caught a 4lber..........dad had to assist with each one to make sure they got to the boat on UL spinning gear LOL.............I never made a cast with,or had any my rods on the deck. We got chased off the water by a thunderstorm around 5:30pm or so, but they had a ball and that's what it's all about. 4 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 8, 2016 Super User Posted June 8, 2016 Trip #36...........last night (monday night) fished for about 2 hours after work again. Did ok...............wind was cranking, and I wanted to stay out of it being tired and sore, so I fished the only small protected area on the lake and boated 7 largemouth. No hogs, but all decent fish., Quote
rmcguirk Posted June 11, 2016 Posted June 11, 2016 Tomorrow morning?  Given the changes in the weather, I've got no idea what to expect. I've got pretty much everything rigged, from a frog to moving baits to bottom baits. Thoughts? Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted June 11, 2016 Super User Posted June 11, 2016 Trip #37........fished from 7am this morning to noon or so. Wind was cranking from the get go. Tried stuff I like to do in the wind..........hauled water. Then my tailbone started bothering me bouncing around in the waves and leaning on my seat post, so I pretty much had to go to the one calm 400 yard section of the lake. For 3 hours I just kept making laps in there.............one pass shallow, one pass deep, one pass in the mid depths......and then shallow, deep, mid again...........and then repeat. I caught fish on every pass, and in every depth. Ended up with a dozen largemouth and a couple small keeper smallmouth. Largemouth were nothing to write home about, most of them were 1.5 lbers, a couple mid 2's, and the best I could do for size today was a pair of 3lbers. Bout noon or so when the rain looked like it was NOT going to happen the wake boats and jet skies fired up. Normally I would deal with them, but being "broken" I had little tolereance, so I left. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 12, 2016 Super User Posted June 12, 2016 Trip #38..........another 7am unti noon affair again this morning.............and another trip in the mega windz. Oddly enough, today was 100% better than yesterday Did the same thing I did yesterday, bounced around and fished all different depths and caught 23 bass. Healthy mix of largemouth and smallmouth. Better size today too with my best five being a 4-10 (LM) 4-1 (LM) 3-12 (SM) 3-8 (SM) and a 3-7 (SM) 2 Quote
Subaqua Adinterim Posted June 12, 2016 Posted June 12, 2016 Friday - trip to one of the smaller finger lakes. Got there about 3:30, somewhat windy. Had one pole rigged with a shakey head and another rigged with the smallest size yellow/red dot silver blade panther martin spinner on an ultralight set up. I alternated using each, usually following up the shakey head with the panther martin when I felt just a tug from what I thought was panfish. Caught several nice size bluegills and sunfish on the panther martin and a few bass, one largemouth with a big appetite was only about 3 inches long but that one flipped off before I could snap a picture. Had 2 really big fish on the shakey head. One flipped off the hook after it jumped just after I hooked up - long cast and crimped down barb will cause that, but that's part of fishing that way. Took a picture of a good size smallmouth, I'm guessing over 3#s. I never bring a scale but judging by the length and the heft it was a good size one. Fished for about 4 hours: stopping for an hour to stretch and eat some snacks and talk to a really nice guy fishing on the bank. A teacher in the Honeoye school district. He had just caught one on a rebel popper and was thrilled. Good to see that. A relaxing and fun afternoon.  Couple pictures attached of the smallmouth.  1 Quote
PAGreg Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Was out on Waneta & Lamoka on Saturday and it sucked. Talked to a few other guys from my club that were out and they said the same thing. They treated the lakes for weed control and it's a mess now. Add in that the water level seems to be down 6". Quote
rmcguirk Posted June 13, 2016 Posted June 13, 2016 Tough weekend for me on Conesus. Wind was brutal at times both days, and even in "protected" spots and with my drift sock out, it was still pushing me across the water pretty fast. In five hours Saturday, I managed only two LM, one of which was decent, at 3.25. In five hours on Sunday, nothing. I got one pike hit at the boat and a few pecks from what felt like sunnies or rockies, but no bass. Depressing. On Sunday, given the constant wind direction, at least in the morning, all the boats were stacked up on the west side of the lake. The only consolation is that I was around a lot of other boats and didn't see anyone catching anything. Cold consolation. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 13, 2016 Super User Posted June 13, 2016 Trip #39...............Did yet another 7am-noon trip. Caught an even dozen bass...........10 largemouth and 2 smallmouth One of the smallies was a good one.....4-7, the other was a 12"er The largemouth were all decent 2.5-3 lb fish, with one bigger one pushing 4lbs. Subaqua Adinterim Posted June 16, 2016 Posted June 16, 2016 Wednesday afternoon (yesterday), went out from 3:30 til 8, stopping for an hour to stretch and eat a sandwich around 5p.m. Landed 9, all largemouth, had 4 that shook the hook; crimped barb on hook and long casts again. One big largemouth and the rest were 2#s or less. Alternated between shakey head, t rigged weightless senko and ultralight set up using small spinners and small rapala like lures. Caught most on the senko, none on the shakeyhead (didn't fish this as much when the senko was working well), and 3 on the ultralight. All were in 2-6 feet of water. Didn't hook any panfish on the ultralight rig, although I saw plenty in the shallows as well as a massive pickeral. Atached two pictures - one about 2# or so I'm guessing, that was caught on a yozuri gold and orange pins minnow. The other was the biggest caught, that was on the senko and I'm guessing somewhere in the 3- 4# range. The water was calm and it was another beautiful day. Quote
Scorchx1245 Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Hope conesus gets settled in. Had a hard time patterning them. Tourney there next Sunday. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 19, 2016 Super User Posted June 19, 2016 Trip #40...........last tuesday night for about 2 hours, junk fished around for a dozen decent fish (all LM) Trip #41...........yesterday. The annual "opening day" 3 fish limit bass tournament held by the local fish+game club. I did OK but not great. Lots of fish were caught, I had 10lbs for my best 3, which was just shy of getting in the money. After I caught that 10lb's early in the morning, I re-ran that area a couple times looking for an upgrade that never came, and then I went hog hunting the rest of the day with a frog, it just didn't happen. Caught plenty of frog fish, but nothing that would help. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 24, 2016 Super User Posted June 24, 2016 Falling behind again.... Trip#41: Last Monday. Fished all day since I had the say off. Pretty decent day. Caught 20+ bass, all largemouth, with the best five going 5-2, 4-14, 4-1,3-12, + 3-9 Trip #42: Tuesday night for about 4 hours. Kinda slow, caught 5. But three of them were good with a 5-1,4-4,4-0. The other two were a 3lb smallmouth and a 14" largemouth. Trip #43: Last night.Held my first Thursday evening 3 hour/3 fish limit after work tournament of the year.  N Bass resource member wnybassman and I teamed up and proceeded to grind our way to a middle of the pack ,semi poor 8.20 lb performance for our best three. 2 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted June 26, 2016 Super User Posted June 26, 2016 Trip #44............I held my first open tournament of the year on Silver, and my partner Rick and I junk fished our way to an 18.68lb bag, which was good enough for $$$$ in 2nd place. Winners had 19.61lbs. We caught a ton of fish today and culled all day long, it was one of the funner tournaments I have had in a long time. 1 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted June 26, 2016 Super User Posted June 26, 2016 I wanna get out on silver in the next coming weeks in the kayak see if I can't keep up with some these guys in the month long tournaments putting up 18-20" fish and I'm in a 16-17" fish slump I can't seem to break out of. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted June 30, 2016 Super User Posted June 30, 2016 Trip #45 Tuesday night..........fished for about 4 hours, kinda grindish. But a few good ones were caught. I only caught 7 bass all night, but the best five were a 4-11, 4-2, 4-0, 3-14, and a 3-9. The other two were 2lbers Trip #46 This morning. Had about 3 hours to kill before work, and it wasn't a banner morning. Caught 4 all morning. a 4-9, and 3-11 were the biggest, the other two were 2lbers again. Quote

We've done a week on Cayuga the last couple of summers and loved it. We stayed up at the north end (west side) by Union Springs on Kozy Kove and the docks there were real good. That's a big dock lake anyway but the Kozy Kove docks are known for being particularly good I'm told. There seems to be local tournaments there every weekend and those guys will show you where to go. I ignored the crowds for most of the week and did my thing in the shallow weeds without a ton of success. By the end of the week I followed the packs of bass boats out deep and hammered 'em the last couple of days. They were out over the weeds in like 15' but this was early August so it may be different now. Perch colors seem to work particularly well there and stay away from big swimbaits if you don't want tons of pickerel. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted July 1, 2016 Super User Posted July 1, 2016 Trip #47 ..........spent about 6 hours out there tonight as I was done with work fairly early. It was a grind, on on fire at the same time LOL I caught 8.............Now how can 8 fish in 6 hours be on fire? well the best 5 were a 4-11, 4-9, 4-7, 4-4, and a 4-3 1 Quote

Roboworms or Dream shots are good. Either green pumpkin or brighter colors like morning dawn/pink... smallies smash those brighter colors for whatever reason.  I would focus on the north end, especially any submerged grass between 10-15ft. Target docks as well, with either jigs or weightless senkos. 1 Quote
