This is just my 3rd year bass fishing and although I do ok in the spring I really have struggled so far in the summer the previous years.   I have read in books/magazines about the summer season but I would be interested in hearing from somebody in this area that fishes a lake I struggle on in the summer (Conesus) describe what they think is a traditional summer type bite.  Don't have to go into great detail, but a general description would be greatly appreciated.  Just something to point me in the right direction.

Dodged my first skunk of the year the weekend before last at Conesus, was able to get one bass to keep my streak intact.  But it definitely got tough there for me.  I'm afraid with summer approaching that skunk is inevitable.

I do well on Conesus and Silver in the summer. Each lake while similar, has it's own quirks. Silver will be 100% un-patternable day to day. Even in the heat of summer, one day they will be in 12' FOW, the next day under docks, the next day suspended, etc...it's very rare to go more than 2-3 days there with them doing the same thing, in the same spots. Why?.....IDK....it's not a bait issue, because every where they go there is bait, and maybe there is the problem.

Conesus on the other hand, get's very patternable. It took me a couple years to figure out on my own what works there, when, and why, so I am not just going to go blabbing it over the interwebz. BUT.....remember where we crossed paths last year at Conesus? You were in the right area, at the time, just not the right depth...at the time. And if there is one thing I have learned about Conesus , is there is no such thing as a bait/sinker combo that is too big and/or to heavy.

Thanks for the tips guys!  I am hopeful of having a better time of it this summer than last.  I believe I have learned a lot from the start of last year to the start of this year, definitely having more success so far at least.  So hopefully that plays into the summer.

It took me a couple years to figure out on my own what works there, when, and why, so I am not just going to go blabbing it over the interwebz.

I fully understand and I am truly grateful for the general help you have given me so far on multiple occasions(directly and indirectly in other posts).  I don't think I would really want the specific information you invested a lot of time figuring out.  Mainly because I think investing the time and figuring it out myself is most of the fun and what keeps me very interested in bass fishing.  A little help now and then and maybe a point in the right direction is appreciated because it can become frustrating and you can have a sense you are just not improving.  But when I look back I see how I have gotten better.

It is definitely a fun but humbling puzzle to try and solve and it seems the puzzle never ends.  It just evolves to new levels.

Thanks again.

I went out to Lamoka for a few hours on Sunday and caught 6,  1 that was pushing 3 pounds 4 that were about 2 pounds and 2 dinks.  All on a white chatterbait.  It was really windy so my plan to throw weightless plastics kinda got screwed up but I managed a limit so I'm happy.

Ok..............since last report. Worked all weekend, trying to beat the rainy weather of the last few days, so I was only able to get out for a few hours Sunday evening on Silver. Not great, but not a bust, from 6pm till darkish, I put 8 keepers in the boat, most 12"-14"er's but a couple over three.

Rained out from work on Monday, and decided it was time for the first road trip of the year, so I headed down to Waneta-Lamoka. I started on Lamoka, and it was on fire. Power fished a complete lap around the place alternating between, a frog, chatterbait, and squarebill, never had to put a "moving" bait down. Best five were 4-3, 3-11, 3-9, 3-7, and 3-4, with 25+ more between 2-3lbs. Ended the day in Waneta, doing the same things, and while plenty of fish were caught, they did run smaller, with only two of the 20+ I caught there over 3lbs.

Rained out again today at work, but with an already soaked boat, and instructions from the wife to pick the kids up from school today, I stayed home at Silver. It was also on fire this morning. From 10am-1pm, I boated over 20 fish, with the best five a 4-5, 4-1, 4-0, 3-14, and a 3-12.............like yesterday power-fishing was the name of the game, but the baits were not the same, and I plead the 5th on the details LOL.

I'm headed to Silver this weekend Saturday I believe. Hopefully after all the good reports I'm hearing from you guys I can have some success. It's getting boring catching smallmouth non stop on
Erie :)

lol, that's the truth.  The state launch gets a little crazy too!

We always get yelled at by pleasure boaters for taking over the launch. I have a couple good spots on conesus that just produce. I drag a carolina rig with a crankbait with it suspended by a bobber through the grass, long lining it.

Does anybody fish seneca lake? If so we need to have a serious talk. =) nothing bad.

Since last report:

Did some shop/maint. work on my hay mower Weds., got that buttoned up by mid afternoon and hit the lake. I only fished 2-3 hours, as the wife called and asked me to pick the kids up and take them to "away" from her as she didn't feel well. But those couple hours were pretty good. Best 5 were a 5-2, 4-13, 4-4, 3-9, and 3-3. With a handful of mid to upper 2lb range fish as well.

Boss said wait till mid-afternoon on Thursday to start spraying so, I once again hit the lake before work. Picked right up where I left of Weds. afternoon, with the best five a 4-9, 4-3, 3-11, 3-8, and a 3-5, with again a whole bunch of small keepers up to 3lb fish.

Didn't fish friday.

Hit the lake about 7:30ish this morning, I wanted to get there earlier but I guess I slept in. "The bite" I had been on the past few days slowed way down, a 2 lber, a 12"er, and a 3lber were all I could scrape up on that pattern, so I went to plan "B" and, while not on fire, it did produce a half dozen fish between 2.5 and 3lb's and some smaller keepers. Then the sun came out, and that died as well. I started fishing docks and shade once the sun was bright, and that produced numbers, but not size. Then by mid afternoon the boat traffic was getting insane and I called it a day.

I had to do a fair amount of running around and junk fishing today, but still caught several decent fish in the 3lb range. But like yesterday mid to late morning even the junk fishing bite died, so by noonish I pulled out and headed home, and glad I did, as we have been pounded with rain almost all afternoon/evening.

Pretty much experienced the same thing today.  Bite was pretty good early on, then fizzled out to nothing by mid to late morning.   Last fish was a 4-1 and figured that was going to be it, and it was.   lol     Pretty happy just to catch a bunch of fish seeing I have not been on the water in nearly five weeks now.

Same for me, which made me doubly glad I made a point to get out early yesterday on Conesus.  Planned to do a little top water, and that worked for an hour or so.  Picked up a few and had a few more blow ups before that fizzled.  Went to a swim jig and got another one.  Moved on to a wacky rigged senko and picked up a pair on back-to-back casts, one of which went 4.1.  (If you can believe it, those were my first and second wacky fish of the year.)  That died out and then picked up a couple on a soft plastic jerk bait on a weighted swim bait hook, which provided some viscious strikes and lost another nice one boat-side.  Last bite was about 10:45.  And then that was it.  Didn't get another sniff.  Got off before the rains came, fortunately.

Definitely can say it was great fishing out my way this weekend, had almost 30 fish Saturday from 10am-3pm, with doubles almost all day when we would get into them. Changed baits a few times throughout the day every time it seemed to slow down and it worked well for us.

Great looking fish!

Any NY guys ready for the bass opener?   Do you guys change anything other than being able to put them on the plate?

I guess the lake saw a little rain after we left.

Boating advisory issued for Silver Lake

PERRY — The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department has issued a boating advisory and ‘‘no wake zone’’ for all of Silver Lake, effective as of 11 a.m. Monday, June 15.

No unnecessary boating is advised. Silver Lake is not closed, however, a ‘‘no wake zone’’ for the entire lake is in effect.

Weekend rains and flooding has caused the lake to rise several inches, dangerously covering docks, damaging moored boats and placing large pieces of debris on the lake.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Park Police marine units have increased patrols monitoring the lake.

It is anticipated this advisory and ‘‘no wake zone’’ will be in effect for approximately three days.
