I avoided the big lakes this Memorial Day weekend. I hiked to some areas on the upper Hudson River instead.

In-line Spinners produced lots of species, Yellow Perch, Fallfish, Rock Bass, Sunfish and my intended target Smallmouth Bass.

Big difference between Saturday and Sunday temp wise. In the 60's when I fished Saturday morning. In the 40's on Sunday.

Avoiding Rock Bass (the piranha of the Hudson) I was able to get a few decent Smallmouth Bass on the Ned Rig and a Jerkbait.

Where that farmer guy with his updates?! ??

When did you start drinking ????

I'm here. The only update I have , is despite being extra cold , it's been one of the more productive April/May in the last 4-5 years.

Haha, no drinking here. I just got a smart phone and am terrible and typing on it. That's great though! Glad you're having a good year. I wish I could get out more. Went out sunday for the first time this year. Caught 6 in about an hour and a half. Biggest was 4-6.

Fair Haven has been productive the last couple weekends. I know it'll die down as we get into summer but I'm enjoying it for now. Looks like it'll be a calm weekend on Lake O as well, have yet to get out there for any productive smallie fishing. Went out on the lake for a bit last Sunday, the water was pretty churned up looking kinda crappy from rough waters during most of that week.

Headed out on conesus today In hopes of some post spawners ended up with 10 between sight fishing up shallow (4-5ft) and Docks. Caught some long fish that didn’t weigh barely anything. (18 inch smallmouth went 1.77lb) One on chatterbait and rest on finesse baits. Where should I go to target the bigger fish and where will they be most commonly ?coming up it seems like there in a transition phase

First 2 this morning. Only got 4 each. My friends were all smallies but i had 2 LM and 2 smallies. These 2 were 3#10oz and 3#11oz. These were the biggest of the day unfortunately.  Hot, sunny, with bluebird sky. Not ideal weather for opening day, but at least our fingers smelled like fish.

Got these on the st lawrence river.

Went out today. Had a great day. I lost count of my fish. All LM. Left the scale home on accident. I believe I had 2 over 5Lbs. I know I didnt have a scale but I've used it enough were I'm normally within a few ounces.

They make it tough don't they? Mine just broke the TX state record, haha. Just gotta keep reminding yourself..."it's only temporary." Congrats!

I was out on Conesus a few days ago. Only 3 hits/caught 3. 1 was 6” other 2 were nice. Got both on outside edge of docks where the was a drop off right in front of dock.
Lost a real nice one yesterday on same type of structure

now why are my pics sideways?

Silver is not being kind to non-locals right now. I had my first tournament there yesterday and 2/3rd's of the field left early, and only three of us weighed in. The other two guys had 5 fish between them, I won handily by 5+ lbs with 17lbs 9oz (which is NOT big weight for there). I culled several times during the day, and caught 20+ bass. Silver can be very tuff, but when I have a day where I don't struggle for anything other than getting a kicker, I have to thank my years of exp out there, and there's nothing I can tell you that can help.

Went to Widewater in Spencerport yesterday. Fished 6 hours and had one bite at the shoreline. May was great. The first half of June was good. But over my last three times out at Widewater I got like three that went after it but landed one. Funny how the bite just seems to end. My best presentation thus far has been with the green pumpkin Pit Boss. But over these last three times out even that wasn't producing. Sometimes you just have to scratch your head and go home.

On conesus today ended up with just under 14lbs, fish are considerably thin so I would think those same fish in the summer would convert to a bag around 16. Caught 14 lbs under one dock and could not find them anywhere else. The bite was on usual finesse style baits. What would you guys suggest for finding more fish in general, and generating more bites on conesus?

I don't have a ton of experience on Conesus, but I recently put a camper on the lake and have been fishing it most weekends this year.  You mentioned that you think that the bass are in transition and I suspect that you're right.  I'm still catching enough fish in skinny water on finesse baits that I haven't really started to punch around the weeds, but I suspect that you'll start finding a good dock bite on bright sunny days and should start finding them on deep weed edges and standard baits.   I also haven't caught or even lost a big smallmouth in a week or two, so I suspect that they're dropping deep.

I've lost two big fish this spring/summer (one 6-7 pound green fish and a smallmouth that was probably 5+ and post-spawn), have caught several good fish (3-4 pounders) and lots of 1-2 pound fish, but haven't really had a fantastic day yet for them.   I've also caught some pike, walleye and big panfish, so I'm not complaining really, just expect a more repeatable pattern to develop soon, if it hasn't already.

Good first weekend of tournament fishing for me.

Had my solo angler series season opener on Silver Friday, won that ....which turned out to be quite easily by 5+ lbs with 17lb's 9oz.

Sunday was our first club tournament on a little smallmouth-centric lake that I have very limited exp on. If you recall we made the mistake last year in this tournament of trying to get cute and outsmart the field by fishing for largemouth, and that burned us badly. This year we said to heck with the largemouth, and targeted shallow post spawn smallies. That worked. We took 2nd with 16.19lbs. Fell 2lbs short of the win though, getting beat by a team who targeted deeper post spawn smallies, and had 18lbs. These guys win there EVERY TIME, but with 3 derbies under my belt now on this lake, and with a couple more practice days, we are going to sooner or later put a stop to that LOL.

By wide waters do you mean canal? The canal gets really tough by late june because of the temps

Got out yesterday. Caught 14 LM in a few hours. Biggest was 4.6. Good to get out. I haven't been out as much as I'd like now that there is a kid at home. I'm hoping to start fishing cayuga a little more. I get overwhelmed on larger bodies of water. I'm used to smaller stuff since I've only had a boat a couple of years. Any tips would be appreciated

Or maybe I'll just go bug WW2farmer on silver lake. Haven't seen him in awhile. ?

Fished the dump, caught some decent bass in 12-14', just off the weed edge.  Ragetail Craw (Bama) and 3/8 oz. weight Texas rig did the trick.  Seems like fish are doing their normal summer thing.

Anybody got any tips on canandaigua right now? Never fished it and I have a club tourney up there Sunday.

Fished 3 tournaments since my last report.

3 hour, 3 fish evening team tournament on Silver on Thursday 7/2/20....We won that one in an absolute GRIND with 8lbs 13oz.

The following Sunday 7/5/20, had a club tournament on Waneta Lamoka. We cashed and took 2nd place with 16.20 lbs

And today 7/10/20 I had the second in my friday solo angler series trail event on Conesus. I cashed in that and took 2nd with 20lbs 12 oz.

So far to date in 2020 I have fished 5 events, cashed in them all, winning two, and getting 2nd in three on four different lakes (2 wins on Silver, three 2nds...One on Cuba, Waneta Lamoka, and Conesus.)

I'm keeping it REALLY simple this season, and just doing what I like to do. Which is flip weeds/docks, deep finesse fish, and pick up reaction baits and randomly junk fish "good looking" stuff.....so far it's working well.
