Always a minute early but a year late. Difficult to find consistent shore productivity. Do you know of any that have a consistent bite? Widewater is pretty good in Spencerport but that is hit and miss as well. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 6, 2020 Super User Posted April 6, 2020 If you can somehow get off shore at that spot in Spencerport, there are some really cool rock piles that produce smallies well as temps increase, but before the slop takes a foot hold. They're just outside of casting range from shore. One of the larger rock piles is clearly marked with a Iron spike. If you can go there in winter, you can see all of the structure. Once the weeds set in, a quiet stroll along the road side with a heavy punching set up can yield some solid fish. You're other options from shore are hit or miss, casting under any of the lift bridges or fixed bridge abutments. There's not much structure in the main canal channel. I mostly ever catch walleye out there. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 6, 2020 Super User Posted April 6, 2020 Spent a couple hours of each afternoon this Sat. and Sunday on Silver. Neither day was on fire, but it wasn't terrible either. Water is still only 42-44 degrees, so not being terrible is a bonus LOL. I caught 5 keeper bass on Saturday afternoon, a 5-1, 4-4, 4-2, and 3-11 smallmouth. And a lone 2.5lb largemouth. I caught 7 on Sunday afternoon. A 5-2, 4-1, and 2lb largermouth. And 4 cookie cutter 3.5lb smallmouth. 2 Quote

kbeeb374 Posted April 11, 2020 Posted April 11, 2020 From what i have heard, state launches will remain open. I will try to find the article i read about it. https://www.oneidalakefishingreport.com/2020/04/10/state-owned-launches-remain-open/ Also from a guy in my club with some words edited "I just got off the phone with Empire State Development. They are the ones that created the “List” This list is ONLY for businesses. So a marina that has a boat launch could get fined for allowing the use of the launch. The marina can get fined, not you! The only thing that you could get a ticket for is social distancing. Boat launches ARE NOT closed. Businesses that have boat launches are required to be closed and get get fined if they are not. A public or private boat launch like the one at Waneta/Lamoka IS NOT a business, therefore it CAN be used. This doesn’t mean that some officer won’t try to give you crap, but remember , these types of launches are not businesses, so there is no “Business” for the officer to fine. Governor Cuomo clearly stated that “people can and should get out, it is healthy” If you do get stopped at a launch, don’t be a jerk and explain to the officer; -That we have talked with Empire State Development. -This launch is not a business -You are abiding by the social distancing This doesn’t mean that State launches won’t close, because they might. We would just have to find another launch. Empire State Development is processing thousands of requests for clarification, so I do not have it in writing yet. This is based only on my conversation with them directly. I have asked for a formal clarification, but it is now in the pile of a thousand other requests. I hope this helps" Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 My excursions this year so far have been limited to a local pond at sunrise. The Hudson River is still freezing cold and the current is strong with all the rain and snow melt. It will be mid to late May before the conditions are right to launch my Kayak, fingers crossed. I am thankful to have the pond to scratch my fishing itch. No one is there and I have an hour or two to myself before the first joggers and dog walkers show up. I have caught many Sunfish, Yellow Perch, Chain Pickerel and a lone Largemouth Bass. On the bright side since I am working at home due to the quarantine I have had more time to fish than ever. I am able to get out in the mornings in the times I would be in my commute to the office. 1 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 13, 2020 Super User Posted April 13, 2020 Been hitting Lake Ontario tributaries these past few weeks(sandy creek, Johnson’s Creek , oak orchard) been laying into fat prespawn smallies. At first they were barely hitting and fighting my rod would just load up and fish on. Last few times out they have become more aggressive like known for. Yesterday took my step son and his cousin out on Johnson’s I managed 2 bull head on a 7” glide bait haha, they managed to lose a hand full of 2.8 keitechs and jig heads in the river then hooked themselves continuously when I gave them rebel craws since they float and would be easier to get out of the rocks. Never hooked their skin just in clothes around ankle and shoes some how. 4 Quote
bclark7b Posted April 15, 2020 Author Posted April 15, 2020 I need to get out of the house and fish... hopefully next week!!!! Quote
TheBug Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 NY DEC & Parks' launches are now now closed. So it seems Covid-19 definitely has a mental health impact to it. Seems it is making people in government stupid. Makes no sense, would be different if it was July and the launches were packed with people. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 It makes perfect sense since many employ people to work the launch sites. If it is closed, it allows them to apply for unemployment, and avoid exposure. I haven't been by any local DEC launches to see if there any physical barriers in place. Quote
TheBug Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 The DEC launches are unmanned so what you mention doesn't apply. If it did I agree it would make sense. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 Not all, and just because they are unattended, doesn't mean that no one is checking on them during normal operation. Believe me, I'm just as irritated, but that's what they have to do. In warmer states, people couldn't help but crowd up at ramps. I see this as a preemptive move to prevent that as well. Pretty sure the only DEC people working are econ officers. I haven't heard anything that would prevent me slipping my kayaks in via any accessible location. Quote
TheBug Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Sorry got to politely disagree, completely unnecessary at this point. No need for preemptive, close them when they become crowded if we are still under the same conditions when that happens. I have no desire to catch that virus and do everything I can to avoid it. Going to an uncrowded boat launch and fishing by myself or with somebody from my own house currently poses just about a zero threat. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 Thank those that can't abide by what you describe for it. Quote

markinny Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 caught 9 small bass using a wacky rig senko. it was cold and windy, but was pure fun feeling that tugging on the other end of the line. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted May 4, 2020 Super User Posted May 4, 2020 Went to conesus Saturday marked a bunch of fish and seen pike shallow but noting wanted to eat even the pike let me bounce keitechs off their nose no reaction. I ended up bailing and headed to sandy creek in Hamlin in the 2 hours there I got a quick limit but got hungry and left. Went back Sunday same spot I got the quick 5 and I landed 24 lost like half dozen or so that just didn’t stay pinned. Every one was on a underspin and keitech. Best day I’ve had all season though it’s still early. A good portion of the 24 were all small like 1 lbers 4 of em though were in the 3-4lb range. 2 Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 5, 2020 Super User Posted May 5, 2020 http:// Last October I caught my last Smallmouth. Hoping I will get one soon. The Fallfish and Perch have moved up to the rivers dam, Smallmouth won't be far behind. Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 17, 2020 Super User Posted May 17, 2020 Bass were biting today. Caught my first decent Largemouth of 2020 in a highly pressured neighborhood pond. http:// Quote
