Had two days in the 60s since then though hopefully be out fishing by next weekend I’m itching to bad Going to try the Hudson River near me next weekend. Locally we are going to have 40-50 degree days this week. No ice on the river but the water is cold. Gonna try some Jerkbaits and float and flies for Smallmouth. If that doesn't work I am going to soak some worms for Catfish and Suckers in the feeder canal. Those fish swim up the canal this time of year looking for the fish that got trapped in there before the freeze and died. Talk about frozen dinners. Quote

Good to see activity on the Upstate NY board again. They're there, adding ornaments to the power lines, lol. 1 2 Quote

Nothing like rubbing shoulders well trying to fish. 2 Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted March 30, 2019 Super User Posted March 30, 2019 Won't be long now. Probably next weekend. Silver is still iced over, but the shore ice is shot and receding fast. The main slab is that dark, punky looking ice that goes quick with a little bit of wind and rain on it. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 31, 2019 Super User Posted March 31, 2019 I entertained myself by watching the time lapse webcam on the south end of Silver. It went from ice covered at 11:44am yesterday morning to mostly open water today...at least in the view of the camera. Good chance I will be on the water next weekend. 2 1 Quote
00dale Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 What do you recommend for mid summer bass on silver like during July to early August, Do you guys throw weedless baits in the weeds and move em through slow or throw moving baits on top of them. is the T-rig good ? Colors? When we go we normally target weedlines and we just havent been getting the numbers or size they it takes to compete even on both conesus and silver. Anything would help, thanks in advanced. Super User ww2farmer Posted April 3, 2019 Super User Posted April 3, 2019 00dale....Are you a Dale I know? Have you stood on the back of my aluminum boat before in a tournament? A tournament we didn't do so well in, but I almost pulled a rabbit out of my hat with some late heroics in the marina on a frog? Do we have a mutual friend named George? If so, you know who I am. If not, sorry for the assumption, and questions. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 6, 2019 Super User Posted April 6, 2019 Boat is ready, tackle is loaded. Tomorrow the 2019 season begins for me. 1 Quote

billmac Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 I've never been able to figure out where upstate NY is, because you guys are all south of me. We'll have ice for weeks yet. Quote

Manhattan and the borough will still be NY, Long Island to Westchester will be called Montauk, and the rest of us will be New Amsterdam. Perch were biting today in New Amsterdam. Hooked a Trout that shook off before I landed it. 1 1 Quote
billmac Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 I think they'll call our part of NY "Southern Ontario". Nice perch. 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 8, 2019 Super User Posted April 8, 2019 Depending on how long I live, I might never have a better first day on the water for a season on Silver as I had today. First 45 mins I had a 20lb bag of smallmouth on a blade bait...all from one spot. My buddy Aaron showed up, I ran in to grab him. In the next two hours we put a dozen more 3.5-5lb smallmouth in the boat between us, often having doubles...THIS NEVER HAPPENS HERE. I did all my work with a blade bait, and he was using a deep diving Vision 110+ jerkbait. It slowed down for a long time mid-day for us, so we took a ride to the swamp to check on water temps, etc...when we came back out it was slow, but picked up again late afternoon and was on fire until dark. This time on football jigs and tubes. I caught 20+ quality smallmouth and my buddy added another dozen. Three days after ice out...it's was above and beyond expectations. 6 Quote

Super User clayton86 Posted April 8, 2019 Super User Posted April 8, 2019 Made it to sandy creek last Wednesday managed 2 brown trout on a lipless trying for smallies. My buddy who took me on his boat managed a brown and a stew head one on a Ned rig the other on a drop shot. We were trying to find some early bass but no luck. 3 days later our buddy went out and crushed some stud smallies same spots we got our trout judging by the pics on FB. 2 Quote
NolanEckert21 Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Were you in the north or south end of silver for them smallies? Also what depth do ya normally fish for them in silver? Quote

Giddy Up Posted April 11, 2019 Posted April 11, 2019 Will be heading up for annual trip home to fish Irondeqouit Bay, Sodus, Oneida, Keuka & possibly the G River....... Hit IB & SB last May while I was home for some training in Fishers NY... We had some good luck, chatterbait & swing head Jig put some nice ones on film...Returned in July, still had success, but the vegetation did impact what we could focus on...Crankbait action was good, but the swim Jig was the star....
