kbeeb374 Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 "if enough water did get in there in such a short time...............you got bigger problems than a few cold nights." I agree. Haha. I am just weary because it has happened in the past. Thanks for the information though. It does make me feel better. Quote
rmcguirk Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Finally, some stable spring weather in our area, warming into this weekend up to 64 by Sunday. I don't know about you, but I'm more than ready to be on the water again... Quote
Neil McCauley Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I'll be out there this weekend. Not yet after bass though, lakers and salmon for now. Gonna be great to be back on the water. 1 Quote
PAGreg Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 I'm pumped for the weekend. Going to take my 3 year old daughter to catch some bluegill on Saturday, then its to Keuka with my shiny new Ranger on Sunday. I don't care if there's any fish under docks yet, I'm flipping docks! Quote
Neil McCauley Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 Really can't ask for better weather. 1 Quote
TheBug Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 And we definitely deserve it! Finally going to be able to get out this weekend for the first time this season. Really looking forward to it!! Quote
PAGreg Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 This is the weekend that's going to make all the time spent wiring up/mounting graphs & transducers and watching 3m 5200 dry in 32º temps, worth it. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 16, 2016 Super User Posted April 16, 2016 Trip #7, short 2 hour jaunt after work last night. We have gained little water temperature since my last time out over 2 weeks ago. Not a terrible 2 hours given the conditions. Caught 4 largemouth (two 4lbers, a 3.5, and a 2.5), and six Pike. Quote
nosdog2 Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Think I saw you putting in as I was coming out. Been out the past few days, temps are rising slowly, I am getting alot of chases, figuring out what colors to throw. Quote

Oh...........did you happen to catch my yearly "forgot to unhook the bow strap" mishap LOL.........at least it was early in the year this year. Quote
nosdog2 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Hahah! No, but I did the same thing this evening! Fished from about 7 till about 9, only boated two, but they were pigs. Now I am waiting on my gas station chicken wings. 1 Quote
rmcguirk Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Got out today, finally, in my yak on Honeyoe for about three hours. Started out a little too deep, 8-10', and didn't get a sniff. Moved shallower and the party started. Caught 15 bass and one sizable pickerel. The bass were mostly the typical Honeyoe rats--about a pound, but aggressive and willing. I did get three decent ones, each around two pounds, though I didn't have a scale, as I go light in the yak. About everything I brought worked. The Ned rig caught the most, and one of the better bass. But, a red lipless and a swim jig caught better fish today. I plan to repeat tomorrow. 1 Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted April 17, 2016 Super User Posted April 17, 2016 trip # 8...........fished from 7:30 am- 11:30 am this morning, before having to get off the water for prior plans It was a decent morning. 13 bass (5 smallmouth and 8 largemouth) and 2 pike. The best five bass were a pair of 4.5lb smallies, a 4lb largemouth, and a pair of 3.5 lb largemouth. 2 Quote
nosdog2 Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Got out today from about noon - 3. Biggest of the day was this cooler! Two fish from yesterday. 1 Quote

Got out again on Honeyoe for another three hours from about noon till 3:00. I thought I'd zeroed them in yesterday and I'd be able to find them easily. Not so much. Managed only six bass and two pickerel, and nothing of any size. 1 Quote

Neil McCauley Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 No bass here, water is 41°F. Still a great weekend. April Lakers are like kind of like catching July smallmouth. 1 Quote

Thanks, I have alot to learn in terms of boat fishing, this is only my second year with one. I grew up on them, but that was along time ago when my tackle consisted of a Shimano spinning setup and a bag of 8" black worms. Lol Yeah I will message you next time I am up. I probably wont be much help for tournaments since I spend alot of time in DC/Maryland for work but would enjoy fishing with somone else. Quote
PAGreg Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I hit Keuka on Sunday. Water temps were in the mid 40s on the main lake and water is crystal clear. Could see bottom in 25' of water. Channel out of Penn Yan was 56º and the blue gill have spawned in the channel. Thousands of small gills in the channel, but found no bass there. I spent most of my day running and checking out new water. Covered 30 miles. Caught one smallmouth in 12' of water on a weedbed. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 19, 2016 Super User Posted April 19, 2016 Trip #9..............only had about 1.5 hours of daylight to fish after work tonight, so I hit some smallmouth spots close to the ramp. Not a numbers affair this evening as I only caught 6.............but the best five of those 6 were, a 5-3, 5-1, 4-12, 4-9, and a 4-5. I'll take 23lbs of smallies in an hour and a half any day. 3 Quote
zmankane24 Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Went out Monday to conesus fished from about to 1-5 caught nice tan but then started to catch some fish Quote
Subaqua Adinterim Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Went out Monday in my 12' Hornbeck canoe on one of the smaller Finger Lakes. It was quite windy, which made paddling and fishing tough. It was good on the shore though because the small black flies were insane, there were thousands and the wind at least made it somewhat bearable when putting in and taking out. Fished from 11 til 5 with a few breaks to go to shore to stretch and have a snack. Caught 4 LMB in the last 1.5 hours all on a shakeyhead rig. 2 small ones about a pound, one about 2#s and one over 3. The water was cold. I think my luck changed when the water got a slight bit warmer (that's only my theory, as I'm far from an expert and more of a trial and error guy). Anyway it was good to catch a few. Next time out, I will stick with the shakeyhead rig on the one rod and switch from the senko on the other rod which didn't catch anything, to something like a lipless crank bait. there are no weeds yet close to shore where I'm fishing so I will give something like a red eyed shad lure a shot. 1 Quote
River Dave Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 OK I have a couple of quick questions about Silver Lake for WWII Farmer or anybody else that might know. I would like to make a few trips there this year but am looking for the best way to get there. I'm only an hour away in West Seneca (little South of Buffalo) and the route I always take there is 20A but I don't think I can make that Warsaw hill towing the boat so I'm looking for an alternative. Looking at a map it looks like either 78 or 32 will get me there with less hills but I would like to know if those are decent for towing or if they're stone roads that will ruin my gelcoat. We used to camp at Jellystone so I know the roads up to that point but I don't know how they are beyond that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 21, 2016 Super User Posted April 21, 2016 Trip #10..............was out for 2 hours after work tonight from 6:30-8:30 pm It was on fire............caught 42. Best five: 4-13, 4-11, 4-8, 4-5, and 4-4. This time all largemouth. Quote
