DO you night fish this time of year? Nah, the only time I night fish is during summer heat waves. I've tried, but no luck. But during heat waves, I caught a lot. All big too, rarely anything small. bclark7b Posted April 26, 2014 Author Posted April 26, 2014 Things were slow and pretty windy today. Only caught 3 in two hours. One was a big 3.12lb Lm Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 26, 2014 Super User Posted April 26, 2014 Things are coming along nice now for both size and numbers here. No more talking. 1 Quote
Scorchx1245 Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Hoping to pick up my boat this next week, nice 17.5 tracker. Going to try Canandaigua as soon as I can. Caught a nice smallmouth off the pier in Canandaigua today before work on a jerk bait after 2 hours of dragging jigs, and lipless cranks. Windy and overcast. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted April 26, 2014 Super User Posted April 26, 2014 Any more luck upstate anyone? I haven't been out in a few days. Weather hasn't exactly been ideal. Hopefully I can get out tomorrow for a couple. At least test out some new gear. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted April 30, 2014 Super User Posted April 30, 2014 Oh yeah there biting reel good. I The time, has come let's Catch some hawgs! 1 Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 1, 2014 Super User Posted May 1, 2014 I hope to hit Silver Lake this weekend if the weather somewhat cooperates. But I struggle there and usually end up just catching pike. Silver Lake?? Never heard of it. LMAO.....Please come catch some more pike, get them out of my way. Quote
TheBug Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Silver Lake?? Never heard of it. LMAO.....Please come catch some more pike, get them out of my way. Apparently my hint was too subtle, I said that so you would PM me some hot spots to fish. In my complete newbie opinion, I think I struggle there because the times I've been there the weed growth was pretty heavy and my trolling motor couldn't cut it so I ended up fishing the outside weed edge. And that seems to be where the pike were hanging out. I've got a new motor this year, with a little more thrust and hopefully a better weedless prop so I can fish into the weeds and the docks. Although I don't think weeds will be an issue this weekend. Quote
chromedog Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Got a place on De Ruyter lake, but plan on fishing Oneida, Onandagha, Otisco and any other suggestions. I fish these same lakes. Try the North end of Skaneateles. Great fishing. Quote

Although I don't think weeds will be an issue this weekend. The whole lake is a hot spot...............or not. It's very moody, like all grass cover based lakes. I have honestly caught 5 and 6lb fish in just about every place imaginable on that lake, on just about every technique or bait I use. Timing, timing, timing, and again.....timing is everything there. When they are not biting , expect to go FOREVER with out a bite, especially this time of year....instead of there being wads of fish in a nice thick milfoil bed, they are spread out, in small groups, and the are always roaming around. There was a stretch I fished today where I caught a limit of 2lbers, a 3.5, and a 5.5 that's sucked so far this year, and probably will suck some more, but today we happened to all be there at once. LOL Quote
TheBug Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Thanks Farmer, I am hoping I know a little more than I did last year. Hoping to see if I can put that "book" knowledge to practical knowledge this Saturday. Nice job on catching a limit today! Quote
Chief 2 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I fish these same lakes. Try the North end of Skaneateles. Great fishing. Thanks! Quote

bclark7b Posted May 2, 2014 Author Posted May 2, 2014 I fished for three cold windy hours and caught 4, 2-3 pounders in 4 casts at the same lay down... but nothing else the whole time.. Quote
rmcguirk Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Hit Conesus today. A tough first outing on the boat, with heavy wind and stupid me forgot to replace the battery to my wireless foot pedal for my trolling motor, so I was stuck anchoring and fishing spots. Caught one nice smallie -- 3.8, on a jerk bait. Not another nibble in 3 hours. Good to get the boat on the water though. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 4, 2014 Super User Posted May 4, 2014 Fished 5-6 hours from daybreak to noon this morning............good lord the wind. Fishing was slow but decent. 8 largemouth met me, all over 3lbs, but none over 4lbs. Pike played too..........not nice at time 3 were boated, one a real gator, they also added 3 of my swimbaits to there collection LOL. Quote
bclark7b Posted May 4, 2014 Author Posted May 4, 2014 Yeah I was really wanting to go out today but that wind would have me paddling my canoe like a mad man all day instead of fishing.... 8 over 3lbs isn't a bad day! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Hit Champlain on Sat. Water is high as you'd suspect, but dirtier than usual. The fish were right on the bank of the main lake. Best action was flipping wood in a back-water where the water was cleaner and a couple degrees warmer (55). Ended up with about 20 fish between 3 of us but we fished all day and sometimes get 20 apiece first weekend in May. Looks like the lake is about a week behind normal. Quote
Scorchx1245 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Went bass fishing on Saturday.... Caught 3 pike and a perch.... And the pike were caught on jerk bait and the perch on a small crank.... Had one nice lmb get off the hook trying to land him :/ I'm going out Thursday then got the Rochester bassmasters meeting that night. Ugh no luck here lol Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted May 6, 2014 Super User Posted May 6, 2014 Hit my usual stomping grounds this evening for 2 hours after work. Size, not numbers tonight. In fact I only got 7 bites all night, 6 made it to the boat. A 14"er LOL and then a 5-2, a 4-14, a 4-10, a 4-3, and 3-12....any time you can put darn near 23lbs in the boat for the best 5 in 2 hours after work is OK in my book. 2 Quote
bclark7b Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 I went out for three hours and caught 21. Took me two hours the figure out where they were. At every lay down right near the bank I caught one of two. Some in water just inches deep.. the biggest was only 3-4 but still had some fun.. 2 Quote
