Been studying Hammer Rods, particularly 7' MH & H, and am curious if anyone has any experience with these.  Interested in hearing opinions about the blanks being used, quality of components being used, and level of craftsmanship.  Also, would like to know how they feel in hand, how they balance, and ultimately how the fish.

Can't wait to see RW's opinion on these again.

My fishing partner has one and loves it, he's planning on getting more. I haven't fished with it but have held it and it's super light. I'm thinking about trying one out after my partner has been raving about them.

That and the fact that the guy making them is local to us we live not to far away from Guntown. Always like to support local businesses. The local tackle shop that we go to a lot has the Hammer Rods and the owner says that Shane is a real stand up guy.

Well, I don't know anything about the current production rods. I am aquainted

with the original owner, have fished with him and his equipment.  My fishing

partner and I were scheduled to do a segment for Mid South Outdoors, but

in preparing for the shoot we spent a day on Pickwick fishing Hammer Rods

exclusively. As a result we did not end up filming an episode.

I've never fished a Hammer rod, but have played with them at Toledo Tackle. They seem to be lighter than their ratings IMO. The MH felt more like a M and the H felt more like a MH to me. But they do feel like awesome rods!

I had never heard of the brand so I did look on their website and I would have to agree with you, not that I've physically seen them, but their ratings are pretty light for a MH rod.

There actions are on the light side. A heavy is really a med heavy. The overall feel of the rod is very solid. The Winn grip feels very nice and they have a great warranty. What sold me on them was the owner. In a world where it is so easy to send a rod to china and have it made for $22 and sell them for $150 is very easy. It's nice to see a few company's that stand behind there product. I'm old on Irods but I would not all think twice about buying a hammer.

I believe Carl Graham owns hammer rods he used to be a Memphis firefighter and owner of hog rustler spinnerbaits.. Great spinnerbaits back in the day. My buddy's dad also was partners with him. Been somewhat curious bout these rods also.. Gotta support a former brother and local!

Carl sold his interest. I do not know who owns the company now.

That's an interesting statement. Care to elaborate?

Shane Fox is now the owner per their website.

Carl came down to Speedy's lake house for dinner and an overnight stay.

He brought us several to try and a couple to keep. Unfortunately, although

he owned the company he relied on another rod builder to design and manufacture

the rods. I (we) asked some basic questions about the blanks, reel seats, guides

and power/ action ratings. He was the "marketing guy" and didn't know any of the

answers to these simple questions.

The rods were heavy and wimpy, not a good combination. What we were

targeting was fishing single hook presentations, both tubes and live bait.

The rods were better suited for "moving" lures. I think Speedy may have

kept one, I did not.

Ok, guys this will be my first post on here.  The current owner is Shane Cox, not fox.  I bought my first Hammer last fall to throw the A-Rig.  Great rod!  I picked up the 7'11" heavy for the a-rig and it made it much easier to throw.  I personally picked up an additional 20 feet on a cast and at the end of the day I have no issues.  I have had a surgery on my shoulder and thought I would have to stop throwing the rig.  Great product and the owner stands behind his product!
