What Rod For Weightless Plastics...whats Everyone Using?

I Need one more rod...hahaha, yea right, for this season... Weightless senkos, worms, lizards, etc. I was thinking about making my St. Croix AVC70MF its primary duty.Any thoughts on this?

 

Probably will start another thread about this...hopefully not but Im up in the air about the reel for this one but it will be either a Lews Tourny MG, or coming off another setup to replased with something else a Tourny, Tourny Pro, or was thinking about picking up a Revo SX, cause Ive never fished an Abu reel,found a good price on one so was entertaining the idea...

 

So what are you guys using for this?

i throw weightless plastics on spinning gear for the most part, a 7' ML/F St. Croix premier witha pflueger president, but i also use casting every now and then, and it is a 7' M/F abu Verdict with a daiwa t3-B with hawgtech bearings... both work really well, i think the spinning works better for me though...

Well a weightless lizard and worm weighs significantly less than a senko. your avid 7'mf would be just fine for weightless senkos though. as for a weightless lizard or 7-10" worm, that is best suited for a spinning rod.

I'm using a 6'8" MF Cumara A with a 51E on it for weightless. It'll throw a weightless Zoom finesse worm without too much trouble. The rod is rated for 1/8-1/4 oz but it handles 5" Senkos very well. TW has rep samples for a good price right now if you really like maroon rods with funky grips.

 

That said, a spinning rod is your best bet for most weightless plastics. The ability to effectively cast lighter lures with a baitcasting setup comes at a price.

I use a 6' 6" M/F Vendetta with a 35 size Pfluegar Supreme MGX and 20lb Power Pro if I'm spinning gear, a 7' M/F LTB/200E7 with 14lb Sunline fluoro if I'm fishing casting gear.

I use a spinning rod for most of my weightless plastics except the Senko in the 5" variety, the 3" and 4" I use on a spinning rod as well. If I was going to do it on a casting rod it would be a medium or even a medium light depending on where you are throwing them. If you are set on St. Croix then find a medium light, the St. Croix medium power Avid rod is very close to most other manufacturers medium heavy and the medium light will be closer to a true medium which will be easier to throw weightless plastics on.

For me it's a Phenix M1 m/xf spinning rod with 20# braid w/12 # floro leader.

I think the AVC70MF is a fine choice, but I prefer spinning tackle for weightless

soft plastics. My main rig is a St. Croix  LES70MF/ Stella 2500FE/ Tatsu #6

Dx 742sf and shimano cumara a 6'8m/f will handle everything including senkos. Powell 683cef will handle senkos, and if I really need to I can put senkos on my 744dx

casting- 7' St. Croix Avid Medium/Fast (also a great rod for shallow to mid cranks)

 

spinning- 6'8" Shimano Cumara Medium/Fast (also my drop shot rod)

Also, if you are going to get a new reel for this set up, and it does wind up being a baitcaster, I would steer you towards the Lews Tournament Pro. Of all the Lews reels I've tried, it is the best at handling the lighter stuff.

Ha. That's funny. That's exactly what I have on that Avid. It throws light stuff with ease. Pretty sweet combo.

I have a Lamiglas Infinity Bass 735 (with a Core 51) for weightless plastics. I throw all of my weightless stuff on this except Senkos, which I have a different combo for.

Abu Veritas 7 foot Medium with Revo SX 6.4:1 and 15# Seagur Flouro (yellow box). I have to bend the rod double to set hooks sometimes.

I throw weightless on a variety of rigs. Mostly Medium Fast or Medium Xtra Fast action either spinning or casting, ranging from 5'9" to 6'6" Shimano Compre, Carbonlites, and Field & Stream rods.

After moving primarily to casting set ups last season with only one spinning set up to throw wackys I just really love casters now so I really just wanted to see how many guys are using a casting set up for this technique. I think I'm gonna pick up another TP an put it on the avid an see how it goes. Thanks for all the input guys.
