Spinnerbaits--Trailer or Trailer Hook?

Whats everyones preference?

Do you fish with only a Trailer Hook on your Spinnerbaits,or do you opt for a Trailer for your spinnerbaits?

Do you switch off once in awhile,and which way produces better?

Personally I prefer no trailer and just a Trailer hook.

I find that if you dont put a trailer on just right,the bait wont run true.

I have also found out that if you store your spinnerbaits in a spinnerbait box for any amount of time,and they still have any of the salt injected trailers on them,that when you go to pull the baits out for the next use,your gonna have a bunch of corroded/rusted hooks and blades. Even the baits that didnt have trailers on them got corroded,just from being in the same confined box.

It can make for a very sad day,when you have to throw your spinnerbaits away,that were perfectly fine when you stored them.Lesson Learned: If your gonna use trailers with salt in them,always remove the trailers from the baits prior to storage

I guess if you wanted to, you could put a trailer on your trailer hook? I always use a trailer hook. I always use a one because when i started using them, i noticed some fish i caught were hooked on the trailer hook and not the main hook.

You can use two trailer hooks if you are getting short hits.

You can do this with a spinnerbait and a chatterbait.

I almost always use a trailer hook on spinnerbaits. For me, only about 1 out of 10 fish are caught on the trailer hook, but that's enough for me to use them. My PB was caught on the trailer hook.

A trailer hook will often interfere with a plastic trailer, so I don't usually use a trailer. But if I'm trying to "wake" a spinnerbait, I will use a double tail grub as a trailer. The grub will give the spinnerbait more resistance and make it easier to fish it near the surface without having to speed the bait up. The tail half of a chewed up trick worm makes a decent trailer for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and chatterbaits.

An advantage of using a plastic trailer is that it allows you to add some color variety and flash to your spinnerbait, which is another reason why I like to use them sometimes. Purple plastics on gold spinnerbaits, red plastics on silver, and green pumpkin on white are good combos for me. I think the purple on gold makes a halfway decent bluegill imitation and works very well at times.

I always use a trailer but rarely use a trailer hook. Not a huge spinnerbait guy though.

KVD is a big fan of trailer hooks though and he's pretty darn good with them so I guess I'm on the fence.

I was just watching a video on spinnerbaits and the guy stated that no trailer hook made it easier to come through slop without getting fouled.

No trailer hook for this reason. I don't mind going thru cover with a spinnerbait.

I do use trailers for certain conditions.

I've fished with a trailer hook on my spinnerbait. I was fun fishing and actually killed a couple bass b/c they were hitting the main hook and the trailing hook ripped up their gills.

If I'm fun fishing I won't ever use a trailer hook. I rarely ever feel like I'm missing fish with it anyways.

Maybe in a tourney if the fish were missing the main hook I'd throw it on. I'd probably switch to a crankbait before I put a trailer on tho.

In general I never use either. The only time I will tie on a trailer hook is when I start getting short strikes. But as long as I have fished the spinnerbait they've always nailed it!
