ghost Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 So far I've been impressed with the Scatter Rap Shallow (SRS), caught this bass on 4/12/14 in the morning. I'm guessing this female spawned not too long ago cuz her belly was a bit thin. I'm also guessing this bass weighs around 5/6/7/8 lbs...not too sure cuz I didn't have a scale, probably more like 6 or 7 lbs. Compare how big she is to the rod and reel, she's pretty big and pulled hard and jumped! I ran the SRS and I felt something, when I got the lure back to me I snagged a big carp cuz the scale on one of the hooks was huge. So next cast, same area I get a hit about 15' from me. At first I thought it was the same carp...but then the fish started pulling and it felt very different. I'm thinking, cool a bass. LIttle did I know till I saw her jump out of the water that it was a big bass and the SRS was way inside her mouth, as seen in the pic. I knew righty then that this bass was not going to throw the hooks cuz both trebles were inside her mouth. I imagine I can put my fist inside this bass' mouth...I didn't, not cool! Just before I released the bass, I had a Jimmy Houston moment...I gave her some "sugar" and said thank you for letting me fool her with the SRS and putting up a great song and dance routine. She actually kissed better than some of my ex-girlfriends...just kidding! I own the Scatter Rap Shad, Countdown and Crank and now a few colors of the Shallow Crank. The action of the Shallow crank is the best for my fishing situations and I can retrieve a bit faster and the SRS will not do barrel rolls as easily as the regular Scatter Rap Crank. Also the SRS casts much better on baitcast gear than the other Scatter Rap models...this I like! So far, I've caught bass on the Old School(that's the color I used to catch that girl), Bluegill, Firetiger and Hot Mustard colors. I'd like to eventually get the Bruised and Girlfriend colors, I think those are cool colors. Those 2 new colors will catch the Fisherman(me), and hopefully they will catch bass Too! I know there have been many mixed reviews of the Scatter Rap models, but do try the Scatter Rap Shallow, the action is spot on this lure. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 You said Belieber .... lol. Nice fish! Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 Cool story bro.......................you better get a scale, but then you'll be bummed. 4 Quote
I.rar Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 I lol'd at belieber. A tape measure and fish weight calculator can give you a better estimate on weight without a scale. Nice fish for sure. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 13, 2014 Super User Posted April 13, 2014 I lol'd at belieber. A tape measure and fish weight calculator can give you a better estimate on weight without a scale. Nice fish for sure. I don't know what planet you are living on but that is the most asinine statement I have read in a long time. Why would you guesstimate a fish weight when you can have an empirical measure by using a scale. World records & all weight records require a scale for a reason. There is no better estimate than a reliable scale. Period! Quote

I believe what he was saying is a tape measure is better estimator "without" a scale, not better "than" a scale. Empirically! Just ask Justin Belieber. Got a couple of the shallow Scatter Raps at Dick's for $5.00 each. Dying to try them. Quote
Hogsticker Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Looks like you're maybe fishing a smallish pond? That would be a good fit for the SRS. This crank has its places IMO, but not so much an all around general purpose kinda crank. I may buy one deep version just to try them out. And Dwight can't wake up cranky. He catches more big fish than just about all of us. Quote
I.rar Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Really Dwight? I believe he's just saying that if you don't have a scale, taking measurements and using a weight calculator will give a better estimate than scaling it up against a rod and reel. This. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 13, 2014 Super User Posted April 13, 2014 Really Dwight? This. My comment was based on what I read & the way I interpreted it. My apologies for my comments since your statement was in lieu of not having a scale. Quote
I.rar Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 No prob. I guess I could have worded my post better... Quote
mjseverson24 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Awesome catch, i am probably going to pick up a few of these this year as well... Mitch Quote
