crankbait2009 Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 I was recently watching the bass pros on the versus channel and on this episode Edwin Evers was discussing throwing buzzbaits........ as he started breaking down his "arsenal" he showed that he threw an additional hook on the already there single hook. I think its called a trailer hook, but im not sure....... i have seen this trailer hook on some spinner baits but never on a buzz. he actually placed a long shank treble hook as that trailer hook but did not have any grub on the end. he just had the buzzbait skirt and these two sets of hooks. has anyone ver attached a treble hook to a buzzbait let alone a spinner bait? does anyone add a grub or soft plastic to this trailing hook? If so, could anyone provide some photos of there set up? i would like to see how they look. Quote
Revo_Carrot Stix Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 I never throw a buzzbait without trailer or trailer hook. Over 1/2 my bass are hooked on the trailer hook alone. I always throw black too. I mostly use a spinnerbait type black trailer like this: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops%C2%AE-Cajun-Trailer%E2%84%A2/product/32792/-639854 I always attach 3/0 Gammy trailer hook. http://www.basspro.com/Gamakatsu-Spinnerbait-Trailer-Hook/product/15832/-1730661 Sorry, don't have any pictures to show. Super User Wayne P. Posted February 26, 2011 Super User Posted February 26, 2011 I've had instances where it took a trailer hook on the trailer hook to get them. Quote

cBooms@SML Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 i think rick clunn talked about it a little bit in Bass Pros in season 2 and he or someone else said he uses a treble hook as a trailer hook Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 26, 2011 Super User Posted February 26, 2011 Trailer hook never Quote
lsbass Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Try using a frog hook as a trailer hook. Quote
Vinny Chase Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Trailer hook EVERY time I throw a Buzzbait...I have learned that lesson the hard way.. Sometimes I will throw a boogie tail style bait on the back or take the skirt off altogether and put on a soft swimbait Quote
Super User Marty Posted February 27, 2011 Super User Posted February 27, 2011 I always use a trailer hook (single, not treble) on my buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. While the majority of the fish are on the main hook, there are enough on the trailer hook only that I won't use these baits without one. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 27, 2011 Super User Posted February 27, 2011 Yes. Add a trailer hook to your buzzbait. That makes spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and buzzbaits for trailer hooks. Quote
TimJ Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 re: Clunn and the treble trailer. When fishing smallies with a buzz, there usually isn't much emergent to hang up on. The treble works well in that situation. you can also cut off one hook tyne and use 2/3 of the treble, both pointing somewhat upwards if it starts to get a bit messy. TJ Quote
