mrmacwvu1 Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Good luck to you. I was supposed to be moving to Florida, but my mom has four ruptured disks that she is having surgery on. It will be months now before I can move. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 Get some duragesic patches. AKA fentanyl patches. That junk will have you walking upright in a matter of minutes. Either that or it will have you flying like a freaking kite. To hell with injections. Demerol and spinal blocks don't hold a candle to sweet sweet fentanyl. I believe it is 100 times the potency of morphine. Works good on break through pain that other pain meds can't touch. Unless you got some big bucks you gotta get it prescribed by your doctor. Best way I can think of for you to get out there and fish relatively pain free. Well, I guess you could always bang gear. That's an expensive habit though. You probably won't get much fishing done if you start doing that. At least you can chase a dragon though...... 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 12, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 12, 2014 I just want to fish for hours on end with no pain. I'm on oxycontin now for knee pain but it's not helping my back pain at all. Quote

Bigbill Bill, I live with depilating back pain and have done the water therapy; it's nice and relaxing, but check what your insurance covers. Over the past several years I've tried various physical therapies, shots, pills, patches, etc. and nothing last for long; they've even talked of cutting nerves. These days I've learned to weigh my options when doing thing... I ask myself "is it worth it?" one day in the Bass Boat = three days of recovery... Is it worth it? Hell yes!!! Tip: Stay away from the drugs as much as possible; they cover up the pain and trick you into doing things you should not, so when the drugs wear off your hurting more. Also, they have other side effects that disrupt your other body functions. Hang in there, and don't park yourself in a chair, keep moving. Quote
Super User slonezp Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 All I can say is If you trust your doctors, then trust them. If you don't, then look elsewhere. It worked for me. 1 Quote

Super User Sam Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 Back pain is no fun. Neither is knee pain. I had my right knee totally replaced and I don't even realize it is there. I have gone from 216 to 188 and heading to 180 and feel so much better. Have more energy and I can see my feet and my _______ now. Please see another doctor for a second opinion just to make sure. All the best to everyone who is fighting pain. Quote
Traveler2586 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 LOL, I just moved two cubic yards of top soil, the next few days should be fun Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 15, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 15, 2014 My doctor visit wasn't great today. I have spinal stenosis I think it's called. I have all this plus arthritis it's all at the worst degree for pain. It's the part of my spine that has a canal were the nerves go through is closing up on the nerves. It's like a 12" long pipe they need to cut open to relieve the pressure. They want to try an injection first and PT PLUS maybe pool pt. I need to lose 30# if that doesn't work than an operation is next. Quote

Spine surgery has come a long way over the years. retiredbosn turned me on to this website when I was still trying to get correctly diagnosed. http://www.spine-health.com/ There's a lot of info here as well as a forum you can ask questions Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 15, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 15, 2014 I figured maybe a special back support and I'd be ok. I'm not missing another bass season. Last year it was prostate cancer now this. Where's my golden years? I'm 63yo and figured I'd fish the rest of my life being retired. I'm hoping maybe therapy can take the pain away. I'm not done fishing yet. The specialist said my pain won't get worse. It won't kill me. I have everything that can go wrong all at once. Lucky me. Me and topwaterspook (stitch) are fighters and I will beat this too just like prostate cancer. Thanks for the website I'll check it out. I post about my health so you guys that are ok will enjoy life and fish more. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted April 15, 2014 Super User Posted April 15, 2014 good luck big bill, hopefully you get out there this year and post some pigs on here! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 16, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 16, 2014 Trust me I'll be bass fishing if I have to crawl out of the car. I am so jones'n to test out my new LEWS RODS and the Supercast spinning reels. Plus my new bait ball lures. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted April 25, 2014 Author Super User Posted April 25, 2014 I had the injections today, have to say feeling pretty good so far. I hope it gets even better, they say it may take three days to fully kick in. I feel the pain is reduced 50% so far. I'm feeling great. I'm taking the grandson fishing tomorrow. I'll bring a chair so I don't push it. Thanks to all you guys and gals for support. I feel so good I ordered a new fly rod. Quote
