Super User Darren. Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 Fantastic! Where'd you catch her? I pulled in a 22 1/4" 6.6 pounder in my avatar last fall at Lee Hall Reservoir (NNPK). One of many 6+ fish I've caught there. My PB was at Harwood's Mill a couple years back. 1 Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 Pretty work! My first citation this year was a recapture of the big girl in my avatar, 24" long, and even though I spend many days fishing that pond each year (only 3 acres), I very rarely catch her. Only once last year Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 Great Bass ~ Congrats ! A-Jay Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 what is this Citation, I hear more northerly folk speak of? is it yank speech for HAWG? Some states have a citation reward for fish caught exceeding certain set standards. Any fish over the weight or length minimum can be submitted for recognition by the state. Like infishermans master angler awards. Any fish exceeding the standard are referred to as citation fish whether you submit them or not. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted April 12, 2014 Super User Posted April 12, 2014 what is this Citation, I hear more northerly folk speak of? is it yank speech for HAWG? Are Viginians considered yanks now? 1 Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Are Viginians considered yanks now? Lord I hope not! but things are changing everyday. Pardon me...... yank was a strong word to use. it does seem more northern type folks use the word citation to describe a fish.... I am not meaning to lump in Ole Virginia. why the use/meaning of citation in reference to a bass? Quote
shimmy Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Virginia citation is a 22 inch bass or 8 pounder. Great fish by the way!!!! Quote
Brian Needham Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Virginia citation is a 22 inch bass or 8 pounder. Great fish by the way!!!! do you get a citation from the governor? a phone call? plaque? why is it called a citation? I really want to know........22 inches or 8# is a heck of a fish. Quote
Kevin22 Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 22" 8lb fish? Wowser! My last 22.5 weighed 4.25. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted April 13, 2014 Super User Posted April 13, 2014 22" 8lb fish? Wowser! My last 22.5 weighed 4.25. Was it still alive? That one had to be awful skinny! Quote

You get a piece of paper (from the department of game and inland fisheries) I think, at least that's what I got for my north carolina citation cobia (have to be 40lbs, weighed 51lbs) and sea mullet (have to be 1.5lbs, weighed 2lbs). I don't get them in Virginia because it's 5 bucks to get that silly little piece of paper and I can buy a bag of plastics with that money 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 If your fish is long and skinny, measuring 22" or beyond, it's a citation. If your fish is 18" and 8 lbs, it's also a citation. Dang fat lady there! Quote

Super User tcbass Posted April 14, 2014 Super User Posted April 14, 2014 Weird. The word citation in most states is a ticket. Like a speeding ticket is called a citation. lol. 2 Quote
