Ok, i searched and realize there are a lot of opinions on this, instead of asking what everyones fav brand of rod is, i will tell you my situation and just ask what you would do in this situation.

Moving from Texas to Gainesville, FL where probably Rodman reservoir will be my home water when i get settled in. Considering this move i am changing up my gear to fit the new style that i will be fishing. I use a 7'3"H/F *** Black for flipping to docks and such for now, but will be changing that rod over to fish Carolina Rigs. I think Rodman has stump fields so i will be flipping plastics and jigs to wood cover. I will have a separate punch rod. Jigs will be most in the 1/2 - 3/4 oz range.

I have a gander mountain gift card for 100.00. I am not married to the idea of using it for a flipping stick as it will be my primary source for tackle once in florida. So here is what I am between

Available at Gander:

Duckett 7'10"

*** 7'11" H/XF

Mojo Bass 7'9" Heavy/Fast - Actually their swimbait rod but i thought would be a good flipping stick

Crucial Flipping stick

OR buying a Denali Jadewood/Kovert Flipping stick. Would prefer a FAST tip vs Xfast, so probably have to be the Kovert. So keep the gift card and buy from TW or use it to get one of the above rods at Gander? Thanks guys.

I would think Hydrilla in Florida.. Soft plastic rigs over a jig... There certainly are places where a

Jig can be used..that ***.. Will work great in that jungle.. I have a 7'1" heavy... It's a stout stick!

Maybe a a little more length maybe a xh? It's been a bit since I fished Rodman but you're going

To love fishing there!

I have no opinion on the other rods, as I have never used them, but STAY AWAY from this rod as a flipping stick. It's not lights, nor balances well with any less than a 10oz. reel, after an hour of flipping with such a combo you'll want to stomp on kittens and punch old people. I like St Croixs just fine, but...........not this rod.

I'll add to what ww2 said. The 7'6 Jadewood is a heavy rod and very tip heavy also. Doesn't balance well at all. So that eliminated 2 of your possible choices for you.

I would go with the lightest best balancing rods you can go with... the *** and the duckett will be your best options on your list...

Every time I read a post on flipping it turns out to be pitching. You don't need a reel to flip with, the rod is everything, the longer and stronger the better.

I wouldn't change anything until you fish Rodman with the tackle you have!

Agree

I have flipped, pitched and punched into the nastiest, thickest, heaviest cover on the planet.

I was given this rod as gift a while back and as soon as I picked it up I thought about sticking it in the ground and useing it to connect a 2nd phone line into the house.

In my opinion there are better choices.

X 2 on Denali, the 7'8 kovert is great flipping stick for what you're wanting to do. Very sensitive rod.

I have never used that exact mojo bass but have others and I think they are pretty junky. Even though they are fairly cheap there are plenty of other rods that cost around that price that are actually good rods. I would personally never buy a mojo bass. I don't have the crucial you are asking about but do others and they are nice rods and very comfortable for me. They also come with a great warranty.

Haven't tried the Denali, but the rods you mentioned are price point rods, that won't impress you much.   I would stick to the Crucial of the bunch and if not save money and get yourself a once and done flipping rod.....

Dobyns Champion Extreme DC795FLIP,

St. Croix  Legend Tournament TBC711HMF

Loomis BCFR894 GLX

Rods that last a lifetime and come with lifetime warranties and believe me in FLORIDA you will use it more than you think! Welcome to the fishing capital of the WORLD, by the way.... GO NOLES!  Down with the GATORS!
