Hello all,

I was fishing with a buddy of mine on a lake that can be hit or miss. We were having terrible luck until the last 15 minutes of daylight, he caught a nice 2-3 pounder and then a few casts later I caught this fish. We didn't have a scale with us and, despite my buddies pleas, I released the fish instead of getting it mounted. (never liked killing a fish that I wasn't going to eat, especially one this pretty).

This fish is undoubtedly my new PR as my previous one was just shy of 6. My friend and I guessed about 8-8.5 pds but I thought 'd post up here and see what you all thought.

Please excuse my stupid face, I was beyond excited. As a reference, I'm 6'4 and about 250 pds.

Short fish with a big belly!

I say a 6 with eggs, maybe 6.5-7 ;)

Nice fish!!   I imagine if I'd caught that, she'd be a solid 8 when I described her.

Haha I guess this all that matters. Thing hit like a ton of bricks... Fish here in NW Indiana don't normally get this big. She was a trophy here for sure.

My guess is 7-8lbs. Very good quality fish. You should be very happy with your new PB.

Nice fish, I'm guessing right around 8lb, give or take a few ounces

How some on could estimate pounds and ounces from a photo is beyond me.  If you think that fish is 8#, that's good enough for me.   It's a beauty.

Nice fish man! If you catch one that you want to know how big it is but don't have a scale or tape, clip a piece of line off your rod that's as long as the fish. Find the point of the fishes largest girth and with the same piece of line tie a small overhand knot at that mark. When you get home, measure the line and plug the numbers in this formula for bass. Weight = length2 x girth / 1200 It's not 100% accurate, but it's pretty darn close.

That formula is extremely accurate. Always within 2 ounces of the digital scale.

Its a great fish for sure, using your hand as a reference it looks like 20-22 in long... at that length it would need to be mighty fat to break 7+ but i think it looks really close to 6.5 lbs... nice catch...
