Djman72 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Hello all, I was fishing with a buddy of mine on a lake that can be hit or miss. We were having terrible luck until the last 15 minutes of daylight, he caught a nice 2-3 pounder and then a few casts later I caught this fish. We didn't have a scale with us and, despite my buddies pleas, I released the fish instead of getting it mounted. (never liked killing a fish that I wasn't going to eat, especially one this pretty). This fish is undoubtedly my new PR as my previous one was just shy of 6. My friend and I guessed about 8-8.5 pds but I thought 'd post up here and see what you all thought. Please excuse my stupid face, I was beyond excited. As a reference, I'm 6'4 and about 250 pds. Quote
frantzracing0 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Im no good at judging weight, that said.....HAWG! Nice fish man Quote
GADawgs Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Just a guess but I was thinking 7-8 lb range. Great fish though! Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 Nice Fish! I would say your guess is pretty close. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 Short fish with a big belly! I say a 6 with eggs, maybe 6.5-7 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 Nice fish!! I imagine if I'd caught that, she'd be a solid 8 when I described her. Quote
Djman72 Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Nice fish!! I imagine if I'd caught that, she'd be a solid 8 when I described her. Haha I guess this all that matters. Thing hit like a ton of bricks... Fish here in NW Indiana don't normally get this big. She was a trophy here for sure. Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 My guess is 7-8lbs. Very good quality fish. You should be very happy with your new PB. Quote
NEjitterbugger Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Yeah 7.5lbs would be my guess great fish! Quote
CDMeyer Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Nice fish, I would say that you are probably pretty close, I would call her 6-9 to 8-12 Quote
motodmast Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Nice fish, I'm guessing right around 8lb, give or take a few ounces Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 11, 2014 Super User Posted April 11, 2014 How some on could estimate pounds and ounces from a photo is beyond me. If you think that fish is 8#, that's good enough for me. It's a beauty. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted April 11, 2014 Super User Posted April 11, 2014 Wow thats a taod! congrats my guess is like the rest 7-8lbs for sure Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted April 11, 2014 Super User Posted April 11, 2014 Nice fish man! If you catch one that you want to know how big it is but don't have a scale or tape, clip a piece of line off your rod that's as long as the fish. Find the point of the fishes largest girth and with the same piece of line tie a small overhand knot at that mark. When you get home, measure the line and plug the numbers in this formula for bass. Weight = length2 x girth / 1200 It's not 100% accurate, but it's pretty darn close. Quote
z7master167 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I woulda started at 7.5-8 but she'd be pushing 11 lbs by now Quote

mjseverson24 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Its a great fish for sure, using your hand as a reference it looks like 20-22 in long... at that length it would need to be mighty fat to break 7+ but i think it looks really close to 6.5 lbs... nice catch... Mitch Quote
