I have been going through my Dad's stuff slowly cleaning out his house.  I finally found where his rods and reels were kept.  I found his curado E7, and I got a good look at it.  The rubber material is worn off the handle from so much use, you can see the frame under it.  Other than that it is in good shape.

After I get home I'm telling this to my wife, who does not fish.  Her response was "pitch it".  I think I blanked out for a second.  I think I told her I can get a new handle, I'm not sure.

She's right.  You should pitch it this way.  BTW, suggest she pitch her favorite old frying pan and see the reaction.  The Ladies, gotta love 'em.

Sounds like you need to have her write a 5 page essay detailing the history and quality purpose that reel has served. She will probably buy you another one once she has come to her censes.  :respect-059:

She probably just responded very quickly thinking you wore out a reel and wanted you to have a new one!!  Get the new one and put that reel with original handle on one of your dads rods and put it in a special place in your boat.  MEMORIES!!

The rig might make a nice display in your man cave, but I would retire it, too.

Yes... Another vote to retire the reel for display.

First I'd give her the Ned Stark treatment, and then www.EasternEuropeanMailOrderBrides.com. That's just not right.

Maybe she thought you said Quantum.     OH!!

Just kidding.

I also would put this reel in a special place and keep it safe. It was your dad's reel and from the wear it shows just how much he must have loved it. I would not take a chance of it being stolen or lost while fishing with it but I would keep it safe.

No way on the retiring it.  Get anew handle and use that thing....your dad obviously did and would probably want to see you keep using it like he did.
