I.rar Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 i had a couple rebel cranks before that ran like trash but their 'UL' cranks look interesting. can anyone comment on these? http://www.basspro.com/Rebel%C2%AE-Crickhopper%E2%84%A2-and-Bighopper/product/2958/-636658 http://www.basspro.com/Rebel%C2%AE-Bumble-Bug%C2%AE/product/39957/-955017 http://www.basspro.com/Rebel%C2%AE-CrickHopper-Popper%E2%84%A2/product/42539/-942311 Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted February 26, 2011 Super User Posted February 26, 2011 I don't own any of those three you linked, but I have the ul version of their Pop R lined up for this year. I've had success with the larger Pop R's for years, I don't see why the little one would be different. One Rebel that seems to get a lot of raves is the crawfish crank. They make a ul version called the Wee Craw. You might want to check it out. Quote
I.rar Posted February 26, 2011 Author Posted February 26, 2011 i do have a popr that has caught a handful of fish , but it never really 'did it' for me. those mini craw cranks look like they have potential. BPS also has their own mini hopper and mini dad. never fished any of their house brand cranks though.. Quote
TrippyJai Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 The Crickhopper is a fun bait to use. Just cast it out and retrieve. It catches a lot of smaller fish though. I haven't had something over 2 pounds hit it. Quote
Intrepid Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Crickhoppers are indeed fun. They do catch a mixed bag as the hooks are small enough for bluegills to take. In fact, i was fishing a pond one day and looking off at cars go by when i felt a small tug on the end of my line. i had hooked a small 3 inch or so bluegill on my crickhopper and was like "aww man, i hope he can shake the hook" so i let him swim around and fight a few seconds then all of a sudden a 3.5lb bass comes out from under an algae patch right there at the bank and crushes this bluegill. i sit there watching in awe not knowing what to do watching him eat this bluegill tail first with my hook in the bluegills mouth. i finally just swing for the sky as the bass jumps out of the water, i see the bluegill go down his throat and my tiny crickhopper hook sets into the basses mouth, it was truely amazing to see, and to catch the bass in the process. hows that as a 2 for 1? anyways, green belly colored ones have worked best for me. i also have a crawdad by rebel that has caught a few bass. they have been pretty productive in ponds for me, not so much on lakes, maybe if you found the right conditions though... I.rar Posted February 26, 2011 Author Posted February 26, 2011 ill be throwing these on light tackle so the smaller fish are welcome lol. these mayan cichlid are fun little fish to catch. they can be very aggressive. ive actually seen one chase away larger largemouth and peacock bass on several occasions ;D.
