BuffaloBass716 Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I was thinking about all the baits and overall techniques for bass fishing and rating them on a scale of 1-10, 1 being the easiest and 10 being the most challenging or frustrating. I think we can all agree that a senko would be a number 1 on this scale, more-so plastic worms in general in that they are effective and one of the first baits we all learn on. I thought it would be fun for you guys to comment on techniques that you use and how you rate them, such as ... soft plastics shallow cranks deep cranks lipless cranks jerk baits jigs. topwater etc... Super User Choporoz Posted April 9, 2014 Super User Posted April 9, 2014 I've only been on the forum for a couple of weeks, but from all the info I've been drowning in, I'd say you're missing about 60 categories/sub-categories Quote

papajoe222 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 As an old man with a bum shoulder, the most challenging for me is not a type of lure, but a technique. Pitching is one that has kept me from competion since the late 90's. That makes jigs my most challenging and frustrating because it's also my most productive. Drop shotting is right up there because I have no confidence in it and deep cranking rates on par as pitching a jig as it's a killer on the shoulder. All the others, I'd rate a 2 or 3 with top water being the only 1 on my list. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 10, 2014 Super User Posted April 10, 2014 All baits and techniques ...... Piece of cake, the answer is 1, finding the fish the answer is 10. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 10, 2014 Global Moderator Posted April 10, 2014 In terms of learning how to use them, nothing was harder for me to learn to fish properly than the jig. I'm almost completely self taught, and just a few years before Youtube was around, and it took me several years to feel like I had the hang of fishing them. Quote
hatrix Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Drop Shot -100 It is soooo easy to use. That's what I setup for kids and stuff because I feel it is so easy. Everywhere I fish it flat out kills them better then any thing. Size is not always great but it gets bit constantly. I think a difficulty raiting is slightly subjective to how much a person uses that technique. Some techniques require more practice but once you become proficient with them it becomes second nature. As for senkos the sing so slow weightless sometimes it is hard for me to fish cause I am the type who wants to go go go. Although I can throw a giant swimbait all day and have no issue. I think it is just the action of actually doing something even if it is slowly cranking the handle. Senkos are like a hurry up and wait bait to me. They do catch them pretty good though. Quote

Soft plastics are my strong suit and I really thought fishing a jig would come naturally. Not the case for me either. Whatg is really stange is how one day it just "clicked". My suggestion to anyone struggling with jigs is to fish NOTHING ELSE for awhile. That's how it worked for me. Nowadays I find myself fishing jigs even when I KNOW something elase would be a better choice! Quote
